I now there are a lot of Trek - Haters :P

I can't wait for my Emonda to arrive. Funny story about Trek Haters. I can't say I ever hated Trek (except when they dropped the Lemond lineup) but never wanted one because everyone I knew or saw had a Trek because of Lance and blah blah blah. And I wanted to be different. BUT...having ridden many different brands of bikes I have no complaints about my Treks. Yes I said that plural. Ride what fits you and enjoy it!

I've only been road cycling since 2012, but I bought my first road bike (below) off of a friend a couple of years ago and have loved it!

It's a chromoly (sp?) Ciocc, not sure the year, with Campy Veloce components.

I'm a frequent lurker on the site, but an infrequent poster. You guys in the 41 crack me up.

Not a great picture, but wanted to share in the fun.

My current stable includes: 2016 Trek Emonda SL 6 (it arrived today but I'm out of town until Tuesday), 2016 Trek Crockett 5 Disc, 2014 Trek Superfly FS9, and a custom Tiemeyer Track bike. I actually parted with a 2013 Madone 5.2 to pickup the Superfly. So yeah, I've been around the Trek block. Haha!!! The best part of this...my wife not only surprised me with the Tiemeyer frameset a few years back but she got tired of me swapping tires and saddle on my Crockett when she wanted to go riding that she pushed to get the Emonda. Uh...ok! What a wonderful woman!!!

Gonna get ultegra pedals soon. Any shoes recommendation?

And also once I have the money, I'm going to change the cranks to ultegra 50/34. Currently running 52-36 gosammer pro

Hopefully I can add a little to this. Regarding the pedals and cranks... Unless you're dead set on Ultegra check out the new 105 stuff. I ran the 105 carbon pedals for a while and they were great. Zero complaints. As for the cranks, the new 105 cranksets are nice. The new 105 (5800 11 speed) is probably the closest it's been to Ultegra (6800) and you can save a few bucks in the process. As for shoes, if this is your first pair of road shoes try on some at the LBS. PricePoint and Nashbar are having sales as well as some other sites. Just my $.02

Thanks man, but I'm looking for a full ultegra build with my bike, just because it looks nicer. Hah! And I am doing it slowly, one step at a time.

On the shoes, should I get the top end one straight away or start with the basics, for example i'm looking at r088 and r171 shimano.

I tend to spend more time in the saddle on my commuting bikes, but do enjoy getting out on the road bikes when I have the chance. Here are the stallions in my stable. (2013 Cannondale Supersix EVO, 2000 Klein Quantum Race)

Hey guys today i ordered a cannondale synapse 105 with disc brakes after test riding the caad 10 i figured the synapse would be a more comfortable bike it is a blue color 2016 model im 5'9" tall and i got the 54cm frame i tried the 51cm and maybe it was a little tight but the guy was suggesting to get a 54cm so i thought maybe its a better idea. Do you think that's a correct size the next one is 51 if they would have a 52 i would have get that one i think.

Kind of nerves to see how am i going to like it and if it is gonna fit me well wish me good luck, will post pictures as soon as i have it.

Thanks

SpeshulEd 09-01-15 05:31 PM

54 for 5'9 doesn't sound too bad.

You could always use a fit calculator and figure out what works best for you:
Bike Fit Calculator | Find Your Bike Size | Competitive Cyclist

Just remember, if you put in junk numbers, your results will also be junk. Have a friend help you get accurate measurements. And in my opinion, effective top tube is the most important result.

johnyguy 09-01-15 05:53 PM

thanks! i did and came up with around 52-54 but synapse only comes in 51cm or 54cm

it should be good

I'd say get the best you can for the money. My LBS had the R171 on closeout for $120. That being said I just picked up the Giro Apekx for $90. Wanted to try them since I got a set of the Giro Privateers for 'cross and like the fit. The higher end shoes typically have carbon soles, fancier insoles, and nicer material outside. There are so many nice shoes out there now that it's best to try some on for fit. The one thing I personally would suggest is to at least get a some with a ratchet strap enclosure. Haven't tried the Boa enclosures yet.

I'm 5'9 and ride a 54. Like SpeshulEd said, effective top tube is the more important fit.

johnyguy 09-01-15 06:37 PM

thanks so i guess i should be ok

a1penguin 09-01-15 10:42 PM

I'm 5'7" and ride a Synapse 51. It's a good fit; the 48 would be WAY too small and 54 would probably be too much of a reach and a tight fit on the standover. I think the 54 is the right choice for you assuming you don't have unusual body proportions. Most LBS will swap out the stem for free if you find it's a bit long.

Geoweb2k15 09-02-15 06:11 AM

Hi guys. Not sure if I'm in the right section so sorry if I'm not. I'm just wondering if the brand "Forme" is a good bike. I've looked at it in my local bike shop and it seems to have good spec (carbon fork, sora gears and is only 9.5kg). Any advice welcome please.
Thanks.

Centurion LeMans 26 inch frame 12 speed bought new in winter 1985, 2013 Raleigh Revenio 2.0 59cm frame (my son is riding this one now, and a 60cm Orbea Orca with 105 groupset, Ultegra 10 speed cassette, Ultegra chain, Selle Italia "Flite" saddle, Schwalbe One tubeless tires, Lizard Skin grip tape.

I can get that Orbea moving real well on the flats and even better on a down hill (gravity and all).

Just picked up a 2015 Gallardo Orange Tarmac Sport. Upgraded brakes to 105 and have a set of Boyd wheels on the way. Should make a great bike.

2015 Cannondale Synapse Tiagra Disc. I love it. Prior to this I had a 2001 Bianchi Campione with Campy components. Sold it to a co worker and had instant sellers remorse. Absolutely love the Cannondale though.

DawL 09-08-15 11:49 PM

I have Trek 2.3 with Compaq Zonda wheels. Old bike but serves me well since 2011. Will retire this year for Focus or Cervelo.
