Just picked up my new road bike Saturday and I'm very happy with it. The frame is an aluminum Basso ZER (few years old - unused and new) with all Campagnolo Veloce.

Just picked up a just-like-brand-new Novara Strada for $620 at REI's scratch and dent sale. Just a couple of barely visible scratches and it was marked down to 1/2 off. It comes with a full 105 component set, which I think is supposed to be above average. Most of all, the bike fit me perfectly, which is very hard for me to find being only 5'8". As a beginning cyclist, it's all I need to start with and more. I took it for the maiden 1.5 hour ride last Saturday and it didn't dissapoint.

Here is my new ride. It is a 2004 Trek 5900 SL. I bought it brand new from my LBS. This isn't a pic of my bike but one I found on the web...however the resemblance is almost uncanny. My bar wrap is solid blue and my tires have no yellow stripe. I will get actual pics tomorrow when my white garage door is available.

LBS upgraded the bar to an Easton EA70 wing, I ditched the Bontrager wheels and went with a set of Ksyrium SSC SLs, added my saddle and some Dura Ace pedals. I will probably be putting some Michelin Pro Race 2s on it tonight with a gray/silver sidewall to see what they look like. The Race X lite tires get good reviews and the feel pretty good on the road but I like the Michelins. I guess I can always switch back if I don't like the way the Pros look.

Full Dura Ace right down to the pedals. Weighed in at 16.6 lbs with bottle cages and bottles in place.

Here's my 1-month-old Giant OCR C3. Not up to the caliber of a lot of your rides, but not bad for a first-time roadie. Fit and purchase were from a great LBS. The CF certainly helps smooth the ride and the compact geometry feels extremely nimble--not that I have much to compare it to. Thanks to all here for helping me make an informed purchase.

That's a nice bike...Grreat bang for the buck. Giant makes a nice frame but get little credit for it from the Giant snobs on the forum.

Thanks. That's what I thought. Carbon frame, decent component group, great fit, understated graphics. I'm extremely pleased and just love to ride it.

Hey man cool ride, first time roadie. dont even sweat it about not being up to the bling factor. its a fine ride and 105 is really good stuff. i like to see i first time roadie with this kinda ride rather then go out and spend like 4k on his first bike and then start to ask about how to up grade and make it light. stay with it find what works for you and if you feal a need to progress do it in time as gear wears out. enjoy the ride man.. its not what you ride but THAT YOU RIDE..

Dial tone did not mention anything about a bike shop and the way they set up the bike...he mentioned the way the riders have their bikes set up. So I stand by my post and, frankly, after being a member here for almost 2 years it is getting a bit tiresome seeing posts from all of these "know it alls." Just let people ride their bikes the way they are comfortable unless said people ask for your opinion. I had someone comment about my bar set up a while back and told the "gentleman" that I have my bars set up the way they are the most comfortable...after trying many positions. It was not his concern, nor anyone else's how often I ride in the drops. I did not ask for his opinion, and I do not like unsolicited advice...do you?

It all depends on the terrain for me. When it comes to cruising I'll split my time between the drops and hoods. Sprints are primarily in the drops. Climbing on the flats or hoods.

At 6'3" 210, I find the fit quite comfortable, but as my style and form progresses I'm sure adjustments will be necessary.
