What road bike do you have?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I bought this at the beginning of last summer, mostly to see if road cycling was for me..... the answer... a resounding YES!

Now to convince my wife on a newer machine.....

I like that Steve Bauer, is it a full Shimano 600 group on it? I canno tell from the pic but they look like 600 brakes.

Very nice! Classy looking machine.

Here's mine. Pinarello Sestriere, steel, DT/Richey wheels, Ultegra components, Brooks saddle. Nothin fancy, but she's my best friend and rides like a dream. Takes me everywhere and anywhere, and never complains.

almost full, shimano 600 brakes, levers, derailers. 105 shifters. Dura Ace headset and BB, Cinelli bars and stem. with Omega Cranks. (I did update the seat and pedals though) Needs some fresh Cork on the bars though, look'n a little grungy.

Coolio, nice rig. I just noticed the hanger for the number plate, I am guessing it was a team bike, do you know the history of it? There are a couple of Steve Bauer bikes around here (Toronto) and all of them are nice bikes, what is the tubing on yours?

I've used ammonia on bartape and it works really well, takes the grunge out nicely.

Tubing is: Tange Prestige Cro-mo double butted.
I don't know of any race history.

Yeah they're stripped reynolds wheels. They do look like lightweights though don't they, in fact, I can fool quite a few people by printing lightweight stickers on them.

My Ride: Started out as a 06 Fuji Newest. Now the only stock parts are the frame, bars, and wheels. I upgraded everything on the cheap as you will see.

Fuji Newest $400 Bontrager Carbon Fork $30!! Specialized Stem $15
Soon to come: Bontrager Race X Lite Seat Post $50

Ultegra 6500 R Der. $25

Ultegra 6500 F DER $25

105 5500 Double Crank $35

105 5500 Brake Calipers $37

105 5500 STI Shifters and Ultegra 9sp Cassette $100

Selle San Marco Mercurr Saddle $80 (anyone have any info on this guy? I cant find any info about it anywhere (googling San Marco Mercurr brings no results) Anyone? Supposedly its hand stitched Italian leather.

As you can see I spent a total of $707 (if i did my math right) on a full Ultegra/105 setup. Not too bad if you ask me. Did all the wrenching myself too. This was my first non X-mart bike and I'm completely in love!

Anyone ever seen/heard of the Selle San Marco Mercurr? Im assuming thats the model since its stitched on the front. I cant find any info on it anywhere though. I talked the LBS down from $100 and I guess they retail for $130 but idk.

LMK what you think.

I am not sure, it has no name on it ($98 cdn). The weave matches the frame exactly so it may be made by deda?

The $400 for the stock bike is included in that $707 I spent. And I have more than just a 105/Ultegra grouppo for upgrades (fork, stem, seatpost, pedals, seat) too.

Is that what you meant?

I think that is what he meant but I don't think he realizes that for the prices you posted, you got a better deal. I think it looks great, how does it ride?
