Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Trek is still putting 9-speed 105 stuff on a '2007' bike?

Only one gear, but it *does* coast, so I figured it was fair to post it here. Started life as a Basso Coral, now it is the Destroyer of Worlds.

Definitely great for groceries, but also fun for battling fascists.

I've been waiting a very long while to make this post. Here it is, my new baby. Pictures ahoy!

It's...
An '06 Litespeed Tuscany, which was tipped off to me, of all places, on this forum. Thanks, fellas.

It has...
A Reynolds Ouzo Pro fork.
A Chris King headset, my first, and now, the only thing I will ever settle for ever again.
New Record hubs DT Revolution-laced (32 spoke, 2-cross front, 3-cross rear) to DT RR 1.1's.
A rather complete '06 Centaur groupset, taken from my much inferior, much-upgraded, and much-beloved '05 Jamis Ventura (R.I.P.)
FSA traditional-drop bar and stem wrapped in Salsa cork tape, which I like very much.
A Thomson Elite seatpost and decently comfy Selle San Marco Aspide.
My well-used LOOK 247's. France represent!
And a spankin' new FSA Energy MegaExo crankset.

Ah. Sorry to foist off my gushing onto you fine folks, but it's a great bicycle. If you haven't done so yet, build up a bicycle that is completely yours. Your own. There's blood, sweat, and tears involved, but the end result is absolutely breathtaking.

The cages are Ravx Alpha carbon cages. I got them from my LBS for $38 ea which I thought was reasonable for CF cages. They work great.

On you Dave...Beauty in Simplicity. I might have to change the Giant over to a single speed. What size is your front chain ring?

My first road bike. TCR2 frame with a 105/Ultegra mix and a Tiagra RD bought seperately. Need to replace that Tiagra bit, low end MEC pedals and the only freakin' water bottles I could find that matched (they're Trek). Comes in a little over 17.5 pounds.

That's a good question. I just rode on what the shop built. I was fitted and we tried a few different things out - stem lengths, saddle height and the position of the bars. I'm still messing around with them - will ride tommorow with 'levelled' out bars and a slightly higher saddle. Thanks.

off topic...is there good riding out there in the Ottawa area? I've never been to Ottawa, though I lived in ontario for 10+ years and go back every year.

There's great riding out here. Get on your bike and within ten to fifteen minutes, you'll be outside of the city limits and rolling through some beautiful farmland/countryside. Gatineau Park (where that photo was taken) has some decent hills, considering it's Ontario, and doing a lap or two of the park will turn your legs to jelly. The Park is about as far as I like to go on the Quebec side, though, because the roads on that side of the border are horribly maintained.
