What road bike do you have?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I had just read it in, oh, 95% of Cervelo threads, or in comments on any pic with Zipp wheels. Now I'm hearing it constantly.

Ha - so most of the bicycles in this thread don't have reflectors. Do most of you not keep them on your bike?
I just picked up an '08 Trek 1.5 blk/wht. I'll be customizing it soon with saddle, pedals... ect.

This is my first post here on this really informative bike forum - good to be here. I have been a lover of bike riding for many years. Previously all I really rode was mountain bikes. Today most of my riding is on the road and figured it was time to finally get myself a road bike (something I have thought about doing for several years). After doing a great deal of research as well as test riding some bikes I decided on the 2008 Specialized Roubaix Comp Triple. What a ride! Of course I had to upgrade/personalize a few things - Ultegra SL crankset, S-Works CF road stem, and Mavic 2008 Ksyrium SL Premium wheelset. Here are some pics:

People say that wheel reflectors can come off at the worst times (say, during a 40+ mph downhill). They're also mostly useless on the street, honestly, because they're not really seen unless a car is pointing at you while you're crossing its path -- in which case you'll be out of the way in two seconds anyway. Reflective tape on the inside of the wheel rims can be seen from the rear a little better.

In many areas, such as DC, front & rear lights are required -- which both work better than any front & rear reflectors. So, those little reflectors are pointless (not that they're really any help to begin with, since cross traffic is more of a hazard and doesn't have their headlights pointed towards you anyway).

Lights >>>> reflectors.

^^ I agree with B-Si. I don't have lights up front yet, but I do have a little flasher light that attaches to the seat post. It's a red strobe light and pretty visible at night. I will also be wearing reflective clothing if I start riding at night. You can never be too safe on a bike during the day, but more so at night.

Make a headlight/forward light your next purchase. They really help with cars/bikes/peds being able to see you coming down the street, and they help with keeping you visible in drivers' rear view mirrors (as I found out early one evening when I totally lost track of a cyclist I had just driven past).

Anyway, back to the thread... and no, I don't have any new pics..
