Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It is a personal preference. No right or wrong. I cross mine in the front then the bare cables crosses again under the down tube.

So two pro mechanics prefer to do it the other way? Well my god, I feel like an idiot. I'll change it immediately.

If you are going to take the Lord's name in vain, at least do so in uppercase. Nonetheless, I have to agree. What a silly posting of pictures. At least one of the pictures was helmet-less. Helmet Nazis be damn.

Back in the down tube friction days, I used to run my brakes backwards - left/rear and right/front. That's tough to do these days, much less being forced on the ONLY way to run cables. It's all about preference.

One possible reason for the crossed cables is continuity with cross bike cabling. When I was racing cross seriously I switched my road bike brake cables to the same routing for easier transitioning. Quite often I would ride my cross bike as many hours as my road bike as I was getting ready for cross season in Mass.

2003 Roadie

Found this photo of my 03 Roadie. Should have never sold it. Bought into the marketing hype of a newer bike. I found I still average 17.4mph on my new bike as I did on the "heavier" steel Gunnar. I guess its not about the bike afterall and it is the engine that powers it.

Just got my 09 allez sport. I had some trouble deciding between the sport ant the elite, but I couldn't bring myself to pay $250 more for, essentially, a 1 Lb lighter frame the carbon seat stays.

At least you've learned the lesson now. A quick skim of the forum shows lots of folks who haven't, and worry themselves sick over how to buy the newest things they can't afford and won't derive any benefits from.

I love buying new things. In four months, I've upgraded from a 105 equipped rig to a Dura Ace laden spectacle of a Cannondale.
If your old bicycle made you happy, you should've kept it. I like new stuff, so I exchanged(though I probably won't trade this frame out for a long time).

Lighter bike helps only if you can average 20+mph on the heavier bike. Else, and as you've discovered, better spend time building the engine

My GURU Carbinio/Ti (14.9lbs)

2006 GURU Carbonio/Ti

I wanted one of these since they were first introduced. I've owned many bikes but this bike is by FAR the finest I've ridden. Plush ride, plenty stiff, and quality craftmanship that rivals any other. I love the more traditional geometry. The bike looks amazing in real life. No pictures on the internet do justice to the marble-like effect of the filament wound carbon tubes. It is a beauty of a bike. It has drawn comparisons to the Colnago C-50 (but prettier). I wish more manufacturers would still make bikes like this. I've owned several other carbon rides (Bianchi, Fuji, Ridley) and a Merlin Ti. This bike shames them all. I stumbled onto it in a shop in Texas. Hanging on the wall... never ridden. It's a new 2006. Hope you like the build. It weighs in at 14.96lbs at a 57cm frame.

Just got my first road bike about three weeks ago. I love it! The previous owner took great care of it and my LBS said the pedals and tires are brand new.
