updated pic.
1995 M2 Pro with mid-80s Campy, mostly triomphe with super record front derailleur and front hub. The heat shrink on the brake levers hides some scratches I cant bear to look at. Had it since ~1998.

Greetings,
I'm a newbie here and just picked up my 1st road bike. She's a Scott CR1 Comp. A mix of 105 and Tiagra group and Ksyrium SL's. More mods are on the way - I had to order the wife a Felt ZW 30 with Mavics.
I have a way to go with the upgrades, as there are some VERY nice and BEAUTIFUL bikes here.
Mike

I like my 3T Rotundo bars. Better than the Ritchey WCS Classic bars that I had and better than the anatomic ITM Millenium bars that I had before that. Not sure if they are bett than the "old" 3T "Merckx" bend bars that I used during the late 1980s all the way until 2001.

It's been a while since someone posted an even moderately patina'd lugged steel frame...

1980's Nishiki International
Primarily Suntour gear with a Shimano Acera X RD. Dia-Compe brakes.
622x20 Cheng Shin tires on Araya rims, with Sunshine hubs.
Found in the back of a cluttered trade-post/pawn shop, whatever you want to call it. Bought for a single $20 without the seat post or brooks. $5 seat post was found in a used bin at a LBS.
Now in use daily. Plans for it? I want to replace the Ecsta with something that has a little more class...and maybe some rust.
For all the ugly, it works quite well. No chain skip, no bind, gear changes are fairly smooth. Need to start the stem on a daily diet of penetrating oil though, so that I can get this thing overhauled.
Eventually I might clean it up, paint it or coat it, but for now? I love the perfect "shed-fresh" look. And besides: I'm broke!

WV is not flat..
Nothing wrong with a steel bike. And I know the feeling of being broke. Ride what you can as long as you're riding. That's my theory..

Steel bikes are great. Only concern with buying an old steel bike from someone's garage is the level of rusting, especially on the inside. i.e. when you replace the BB and headset, seat post, is everything seized and will the frame fall apart. Hopefully your's is in better shape - but one can't tell from the current condition of that top tube.
