What road bike do you have?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New bike / Old bike

A couple of pics of my new bike here. I realize this isn't anywhere near the level of some of the sex bikes found among these pages, but for me I'm loving the new ride.

My old road bike, well, is OLD, like circa 1978 or so. In it's day it was a fairly nice bike. I've been using my old road bike and my mountain bike on-and-off for the past decade or so, but have been getting most of my cardio from running. But I kept missing the feel of a decent ride, and a two-year experience with plantar fasciitis kept me mostly off the running and thinking more about biking again.

I had a very hard time deciding between the Giant Defy Advanced 2 and a Specialized Rouibaix Comp. I rode both of them and liked them equally - it came down mostly to a slight preference for one bike shop over the other.

Photos of my old road bike included, for posterity's sake - vintage France Motobecane with Vitus 172 frame. Many things were changed on this bike when I was riding it hard and drilling things out as a youngster in the late 70's/1980-81, including drilling out the bottom bracket. Please don't make fun of the seat position - the crappy old Avocet seat never felt right tilted forward. Anyway...this old ride is now reserved for the trainer. Since I was taking pics of the new bike I decided to do the same for the old one. Quite a few miles on the old girl.

Weird - I just realized I've spent more time writing about the old bike, rather than the new one. Plenty excited about the new bike however...my legs are burning.

Probably the oldest BMC still on Bikeforums. Still running strong.
Put new Yokozuna cables on it, and the Force shifts better than when it was new.
Still running Dura cranks and FD, Force shifters and RD.
Thomson Masterpiece post.
Selle SMP Composit seat
Chris King/OpenPro Ceramic CD wheelset.
Been eyeballing a set of Edge Composites rims then lacing them to the new Chris King 45 hubset. (really dont have the dollars, maybe a set of Reynolds DV46?)

Love the new BMCs on the forum, great job guys!!!

Speaking of BMCs, got to meet George Hincapie and team BMC today. Pretty awesome bikes, and equally awesome riders.

Pretty awesome. I especially loved your comment on the msrp cost of one of the rider's bibs and jersey. Factor in the shoes, socks, base layer, glasses, and helmet and we may be approaching $1500

not mine, but got to ride this the other day. a buddy of mine
who works at DEAN built it...

titanium frame with carbon wrapped triangle (obviously aesthetics, but beautiful nonetheless)

don't know the specific models of the components aside
from the sram red group...

ridiculously fun bike though

I love the look of this bike. Because it looks short and stocky, the thing looks diesel as hell but still light. Next time, show groupset in the picture (Driveside of bike)

Thanks, its very quick and nimble. Yes light!

Yeah i thought about that looking at the picture... wrong side, bad lighting, no garage door in the background... I'll do better next time
