I just bought an old aluminum Univega Vivatech 1050 w/ Shimano 105 group. I'm a total noob to road bikes and I plan on riding the crap out of this one and learning the ways of the roadie before upgrading to something better. Unfortunately, I'm lazy and I have not taken any pictures of it.

I have a 1990 Cannondale SR900 full Campagnolo, and a Mid 80's Nishiki Altron 7000 with full SunTour Sprint. I rode the Nishiki from NYC to Seattle in 08.

honestly -- Its full Ultegra on a Ti frame... tune that baby up and what more could you want? This is one case where getting all hyper about the label is just bunk.

While it is the same bike, I have upgraded the wheels to a pair of Easton EA90 SLX (these things roll forever.... and are super light!) and the handlebars to the S-Works SL Ergo carbons. Total as pictured is 17.76 lbs.

It's dirty I know, but I had just finished a century (today), and did not want to bother cleaning the frame/chain blah blah blah. Am loving the new wheels though.

I am brand new to the sport, so this is my first bike. I initially started looking at new bikes at a lbs, but after realizing how much I'd have to spend on accessories, I decided I'd try the CL route.
It was frustrating at times and tried my patience, but it was worth it in the end.

She is amazing

2003/2004 Kline Q Carbon Race with chameleon paint:
Full 105 with an ultegra RD, shiamano spd pedals, a bell computer, a Terry firefly saddle, Reynolds wheels and a nice set of racing tires. It has some signs of wear, but nothing to bad.

I paid $500 for the bike and have spent another $450 in accessories and a fitting, so it came in at just under my original budget!

When the components start to go, I'll upgrade to full ultegra I think, but the only upgrade I plan on doing soon is to a cadence computer.

Thanks! The color is uniform, so it doesn't fade from one color to the next, the color completely depends on the lighting. It ranges from a deep purple, to a blueish, to the darker green paint you see there in the third and fifth pics.
It's a klein original paint scheme, not aftermarket or anything. On cars I think it's sometimes referred to as 'candypaint'.
I love the bike though, the frame is incredible and it's super fast, agile and stiff, but the ride is still forgiving with the carbon fork and seat stays.
I've put about 60miles on it thus far and can't wait to put on thousands more

It's likely DuPont "Chromalusion" paint. Candy paint uses a translucent coat (well, usually several) between a base and the clearcoat, but this Chromalusion stuff adds particles to make the color shift effect.

chicago is a different kind of city than the big coastal cities in america. chicago is still a city for regular old middle class folks; you don't have to be wealthy to live high in the sky in this city, i'm living proof of that. also, living in the heart of the city, i don't own a car because i don't need one, and that allows me to save thousands of dollars every year over the typical american, so that's extra money i can put towards my mortgage. additionally, my condo is wicked-tiny; the typical american would consider my set-up unworkable because there's no room to store all kinds of random crap, but i'm not a "stuff" person, so i really have no need or desire to hang on to all kinds of random crap.

life is all about priorities. most americans put raw square footage and automotive enslavement at the top of their list, but i'm at the opposite end of the spectrum, i value location and freedom from automobile enslavement above all else. the fact that i haven't spawned any rugrats also allows me to live much more selfishly than i would otherwise be able to afford. but make no mistake, the simple fact that i live in a highrise condo does not automatically mean that i am wealthy enough to be frivolous with my money.

I just got my first bike too!

Another second hand deal that cost my whole $1k budget, plus extra because I need to put smaller handlebars on. However, it's totally worth it - full Record groupset, and a hot colour scheme to boot.

Here is my first road bike too, 1996 Klein Aeolus, Shimano 600 drive-train, Dura Ace crank, Campy headset, Zipp 400 Stealth Weaponry 650c wheels, Titanium Profile Design Aero Bars, Cane Creek brake levers, MOST Leopard racing seat, LOOK classic KEO pedals + more...I love this bike, the colors are beautiful, fast and lightweight (17lbs) If anyone knows the exact color code that would be great!! Added pedals/cleats/seat

My sister and brother-in-law used to live in Lincoln Park. Visited a few times and had the pleasure of riding in Chicago in both the bitterness of December and the brisk April time frame.
Great waterfront to ride....went all along the lake, past soldier field and back...probably a 20 mile ride.... It seems like a great bike-commuting area too. I just dont know how many different areas you could get to...it seemed limited and my brother in law spent alot of time on the trainer..
