Took my Soloist to a winter rainy ride this morning. This is one of my many bikes and I almost forgot how wonderful it handles. Going to give it a nice bath and lube the chain. Aero frame, bulletproof wheels, reliable Ultegra drivetrain....can't find any excuse to upgrade!

Couple years ago I got hooked onto local Craiglist. Bought a bunch of mid-range level bikes once every couple months. Reselling them after I got bored (not necessarily "flipping" as I didn't price the bikes to make profits). I am still keeping 2 or 3 that I cherish. A Trek 2000 with full Dura Ace 7400, a Cannondale R300 with Tri-color 600.....
My main ride though is a Colnago Extreme Power with Campy 10-speed.

Thanks! She weighs in at exactly 18.50 lbs as pictured. The Aksiums are heavy, as well as the carbon wrapped bars.

Posted this in the steel thread as well. My 1991 Fuso. I found it on craigslist back in early 2008. It had the original 7 speed 105 group on it with Scott Lemond drop in bars. I had it cold set to 130 spacing and it's gone through various builds over the past few years, Chorus compact, Record triple, and Shimano throughout. Currently a little bit of everything. Nashbar carbon fork ( I still have the original steel as well), Deda bars, Dura-Ace 10s downtube shifters, Sram 500 levers, Rival brakes, Campy comp triple front, Ultegra rear, FSA SL-K with custom 53/42/32 rings, Power tap SL+ with Sram Red 11-26.

Where is this bad boy at? And I totally understand in regards to craigslist. This year I have made it a point that anything I buy from craigslist is a gift for somebody. I limited myself to an 88' Cannondale Crit with Shimano 105, a 02' Fuji Newest with Tiagra for my girlfriend father, and a Giant Cypress for my girlfriend. This is the only way to maintain a level form of morale when buying stuff off of craigslist. Especially stuff YOU don't really need, but can't see passing up the opportunity for purchase.
*Couple years ago before the economy meltdown, there was a hilarous picture of a "touched up" Extreme Power. I found myself very fortunate at that time about having someone's "dream bike" in my own backyard. Nowadays, I do dream one day that I can comfortably afford a pair of deep section wheels and the new electronic shifting gadget.

Van Dessel Rivet, far and away the best bike I've ever been on. Not pictured are my recent upgrades to the drivetrain (6700 shifters and RD, 7900 fd). One of these days I'll do it justice and pose it in front of my garage, but for now it's being shown in its natural habitat.

edit: i should note that yes, i'm aware of the specs of the 7900 fd regarding pull and the trim feature, but so far, performance has been perfect. if it degrades, then i eat the cost of a new fd. but another reason i went with that combo is because the 7900 clamp is slimmer than the 6700 clamp, which allows me to run 25c tires on 23 mm rims and keep significantly greater tire clearance.

Ok. In one corner we have a singular opinionated cyclist. In the other we have a groupset that has been intentionally designed to be incompatible with everything else on the market multiple times throughout its lineage. In any number of other scenarios you would be right but please take the time to make sure of the facts as it is relevant to your build. I stand to gain nothing by taking the time to illustrate this phenomenon but a warm fuzzy feeling inside for giving you pertinent information you didn't have.

i had this information, and made an informed decision based on input from experienced riders and my lbs mechanics. this isn't to say that anecdotal evidence trumps the rigorous testing that i'm sure shimano put into developing the mech, but given the a) lack of catastrophic consequences for running the fd and shifters together and b) more than satisfactory performance of said combination, i'm quite happy with my decision. if you have any data regarding the durability of the combination, i'd be happy to hear it, and i'm not just being glib in saying that. it would be helpful to pass along to the lbs guys who endorsed the combination.
AMEN! If it works and you're happy with it, do it! There are also a few people I know who switched to sram from campy and are still running their campy hub/cassettes w/ sram rear derailleur/shifter combos and no j-tek shiftmate and they find the combination is perfect. It's not supposed to be, but it is.
