Here's my ride:

I'm 57 years old now and had been out of bikes for about 10 years and then I came up with this. A 2010 Specialized Roubaix Expert and a full Ultegra 6700 group that I upgraded with the following: ceramic HSC bottom bracket, Fulcrum Racing 1 wheelset upgraded with ceramic Campy bearings, Cateye Strada wireless computer. I love this bike!
I love to tinker and I think the bike was great right out of the LBS but my tinkering ways get the best of me and I can't see any reason to tinker if you don't get better stuff to tinker with. I end up with boxes of good parts that usually wind up on friends bikes for free. My sister got my original Mavic Aksium wheels with 150 miles on them to put on her Craigslist Scattante she bought that had worn out wheels.

Thanks BZ. (Love the name!). I'm kind of surprised by the number of elitists that look down on a Roubaix. I originally went to the LBS to buy an Allez like the one a friend of mine had just bought. He got the old juices flowing. I rode a Schwinn Volare (AKA "the Japanese Paramount") for about 25 years and a PX10LE before that. I'm definitely not new to quality bikes. Long story short: rode the Allez, the Tarmac, and the Roubaix. Walked out with the Roubaix. My wife calls it "the girlfriend". A sweet mistress!

My Defy is in the same category.
Long head tube + sloping toptube = Comfortable bike/ Long distance bike.
I love my Defy(1st real/modern road bike) in her 1st week, I'll probaly go the CF route next year but keep this girl for my longer rides.
I don't feel the road buzz on her after longer rides either.

Elitists? You mean egotists :-) The plush bikes are just as light and have same components as their more aggressive counterparts. Unless you are racing, the more relaxed geometry is going to suit the needs of many more cyclists. The Roubaix is very popular bike and given it's price tag, it is an elitist bike :-) I don't like the look of the wiggly seat stays and zertz inserts as well as the premium added to Specialized prices. I bought a Synapse, but also test rode Trek and Felt. All nice bikes. You'll be very happy with your Roubaix! Congrats!

Specialized prices? To me they seemed to be pretty comparable for similar groupos in other brands. I got a better package than a comparable Madone that I looked at. My Roubaix was the last 2010 in stock and I got it at the LBS cost for the 2010. I saved about $800 over the 2011 with the price increase for the same bike. That was enough to find and lowball a bid on ebay for my Fulcrum wheelset. I still feel guilty about the price I paid for them. They were in great shape and then I added the ceramic bearings. Silky and zoomie!
I haven't ridden a Synapse, but I have ridden Cannondales and I haven't found one I didn't like.

Where do you buy a Danali? Never seen a live one up close, but I've seen them listed on eBay.

2011 Bianchi Via Nirone 7. After giving up a bike that was far too large for me, I needed to get my Bianchi fix quickly, so I settled for 2011 on clearance. Yeah, it's got Sora components, but I'm going to upgrade those ASAP. Just not sure which component set will give me the most bang for my buck, but something tells me that it's Ultegra.
