What road bike do you have?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

that's because the UCI banned them like a year after they came out. I think the TT Riders were about them. I personally never trusted Treks carbon and certainly not when it is deisgned like that. but it is a cool ass bike to stare at. How does it ride?

How does it ride?
The "back end" rides like a steel bike, the "front end" needs both the Easton bars and the LizardSkin to dampen it a bit, but overall, excellent, probably the best overall ride of the group. I hate to say it, but I'd probably like it more with some different wheels. (I just like a heavier "foot" on the ground.) I don't use near as many gears, because you can "power through" places where normally, you'd shift. Not sure if that's good technique or not, but it's what I do.

Now that you mention UCI-banned bikes, I was looking for a Y-Foil, and came across a guy with not only a Y-Foil, but this one, too. I couldn't resist.

My new bike

This is really my first road bike. It is a Bottecchia 8Avio. It is a full-carbon frame which is probably more than I really need at this point, but the price was right. Riding is such a huge sport over here in Italy!

Tried flipping my stem for a bit, but found that it greatly increased pain in my hands. Oh well it looked nice for a bit.

It that the stock stem? Th so there should be a shim you can rotate to drop the angle a bit when unflipped. From the website "+/- 8°/12°/16° adjustable rise". That way the change wont be so drastic. If for some reason you decide to upgrade the stem, you have to account for the few mm's of the shim and pick up a small spacer

No that's not the original stem. During the fit process we decided I needed a 90mm 17 deg stem. The problem is that the rather short high-rise stem (when not flipped) makes it very difficult to get a computer on and off its base if it's mounted there. I might try a 7 deg stem so it's not such a drastic rise, but not dropped as much as when it's flipped. Flipping the stem dropped the bars over 1.5".

Just have internal cable routing, chain and bar tape to finish installing and this baby is all done. I built it up with Rival in the meantime and will upgrade to Red over time throughout the summer.

Thanks! Have them on the Scott now. For the money, I think they are a great wheel. Heck even for a few hundred more they would still be a great wheel

oh wow, first person I've seen with the same bike as me. What Boyd wheels are those? The shop where I got mine re-wrapped my bars in black tape because I didn't want to deal with the white looking dirty.

How do you like that stock saddle? I'm thinking I might need something else but not sure what to go with. I was getting pretty uncomfortable after 35 miles yesterday.

The wheels are Boyd Roulers (sp). Very good value and much lighter than the standard CXP22 (1540vs 2100 grams). The seat was OK on short rides, Im using a Specialized Toupe on the Scott now and its much more comfy on longer rides

I'm actually looking at a Vuelta wheel set on Nashbar that's just 1575g for only $250, as an upgrade to the CXP22 wheels.

I posted the bike in hot r' not thread, but I of course realize it is not cool enough for there. Just wanted to see what people thought. I do really enjoy this bike. It was a great deal used and it feels fast and responsive on the road.
