Diamondback's aluminum frameset is awesome--no different between the podium 1 up until you get into their carbon Podium 5. The stock build for their bikes is great and very value conscious.
The only part I could remotely complain about is the stiffness of the Shimano bottom bracket, which seems to want to flex. Aside from that, the stock wheels on their lower dollar bikes are very adequately stiff once properly adjusted and the frames are stiff enough and have the geometry for some right proper racing.

We can start a DB Podium 1 club now
. Does yours ever do that thing where it drops to a smaller gear on uphills? The "fix" is to clean and then lube with some white lithium the little plastic piece that the rear derailer cable passes over on the bottom of the frame.

I'm very diligent about my maintenance, but after the cable housing set in, I've had no issues with rubbing or autoshifting under any circumstances.
Though, I'd really like to switch to a compact crank, I think.

Hey - I am Tom and this is my first post. This is my second bike I have had for about 2 months and its my first bike with carbon fork and I am looking to upgrade the wheels, seatpost, maybe pedals. The restored Fuji below is my first road bike that got me into the sport, and is now for sale in Massachusetts. I am looking forward to being on this forum, there are some sick bikes in this thread. This thread beats some of the crazy big vwvortex.com threads for page count which is impressive.

To give you an idea how light this is, the bikes used in the Tour de France weigh 15lbs, as required.

I'd buy that fuji in a second for $200. Vintage steel road bikes are hot right now, it should move quickly.

Put that bad boy up on Ebay and let a bidding war happen with a bottom line price of 200--you're sure to make a lot more than that.
Luddite
So the other week my 16yo daughter had a Close Encounter with an automobile, the driver of which had a somewhat inadequate operational comprehension of those red and white octagon shaped signs. My daughter is fine. Unfortunately, both her bike and the car's windshield are somewhat the worse for wear. Slamming into a car at speed tends to do unnatural things to one's frame geometry!
So, once securing a "send me the receipt; I'll cut you a check" statement from the other guy's insurance company, it was time to acquire another road bike. We hit several LBS, finally settling on a clean used Felt Z100 with an essentially brand new mix of SRAM Rival and Shimano parts, for less than a lot of the not as nicely fitted out new bikes we looked at.

To this:

I've changed out the seatpost, saddle, headset, fork, skewers, wheels, tires, tubes, chainrings, and chain.
