I have a Trek 1.2 - the only thing I've done to it is put on Shimano 105 pedals.

Wife's first road bike, newly built. She's coming from a triple hybrid, so it's meant to be a gentle transition. Chain's missing because I somehow managed to twist a link on a first test ride. 17 lbs 13 oz with the chain <br>

GTS R3 (Yeah, entry level chinese? brand) on Shimano 105 5700 group set.
Quite new on cycling. I will post images later on. It took me a month or two to ride without a trainer wheel. :-D

Cannondale Saeco
Here's my Cannondale Saeco.
Tiagra, CODA (wtf is this brand anyways?), 105 Componets.
Mavic CXP22 Wheels /w 105 hubs.
Tiagra shifters and Derailleurs
CODA stem, brakes, cranks and drivetrain
Rear cassette is a Shimano hyperglide 12-25t
Specialized Toupe saddle (saddle is an inch far back in picture).
Use this bike for everything from commuting to school to 60 Mile rides.

Paid only $250 for it originally but have upgraded most of the componets from the odd CODA and old Tiagra componets. Figured I'd post it as it's now on craigslist for sale

Here's my bike, 700c GMC Denali 22.5"
Sorry, no pictures yet.
It has drop down bars and is extremely lightweight, not a bad buy from Walmart. The only complication is that I'm not getting all the gears out of it and my higher gears slip if I don't maintain a certain speed.

Just picked up this 2013 Giant TCR Composite 1 with full Ultegra for sub $2k. I think it was a good buy coming up from a Trek Madone 2.1 (aluminum + Shimano 105) I really like the color combo aswell and fits my personality better. Dont mind the platforms, i slapped on my Shimano pedals after i took the pic.

Many members of the "41" spend more on their bikes than they do their cars.

If you're coming from a mountain bike, or even a hybrid, I'm sure the GMC is going to be lighter.
Its great you have a bike to get out on.
You have to start out somewhere, you'll get the upgrade bug just like all of us, & you have a bike that "fits in" here.

Just remember, " its the motor that makes you go".
Grams/lbs saved, by spending $1000's dollar more doesn't make you faster. It come down to the "bling factor" when it all boils down to it.
The slipping you mentioned, is it more of a skipping on the chain?
Walmart/big box/warehouse are know for poor bike assembly.
I'm not even sure Walmart will adjust your bike for you.
Check your cable tention, to see if its too loose, you van make it tighter with the barrel adjuster. Just takes a few turns to tighten the cable up.
Welcome to the 41!
Keep the pedals spinning!
