My new Soloist Carbon – lots of pics

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My new Soloist Carbon – lots of pics

Well, after a year of drooling, waiting, second guessing and some justification to the wife – I finally pulled the trigger on my new ride.

Here are the specs:

Frame - Cervélo Soloist Carbon 54cm
Group - Dura Ace
Crankset – 53-39
Cassette – 12-27
Bars - FSA SL-K Carbon
Seat - Selle Italia SLR
Pedals - LOOK Kéo Carbon-Ti
Wheels - Easton Ascent II’s
Tires – Conti GP 4000’s

The bike weighs right at 16lbs as shown below.

I eventually want to put some Zipp’s on my new baby, but that will probably have to wait until next year. I think I am done with any major cycling purchases for this year. I am still playing with the stem length and angle and want some time on the road before I get it completely dialed in.

To be honest, part of me feels guilty for owning this bike. Hard to explain. But despite what logic and reason may dictate, life is too dam short – and I plan to race the hell out of it!

Here are some shots of the new wagon:

Last, ones (you can probably tell I am pretty excited about my new ride)

My Trek still looks nice with the red accents, although I will probably ride it a bit less now

Very nice, very nice... a tip of the helmet to you.

Agreed on the Zipps--they would seem to be the perfect match for an aero frame like the SLC... Any chance you're in the military?

Well, at least I made it past the first reply before "flip it"

I am training for the Everest Challenge in September and prefer a bit more upright position when doing lots of climbing. I will probably adjust over time. There is still an inch and a half of drop from the saddle to the bars, so I wouldn’t exactly call it a comfort bike

With all those spacers and the angle on the stem, it looks like you should have went up a frame size. The head tube is way too short for you, if that is going to be your riding position.

How long is that stem?

No, the frame size is right on. He's making a French fit on a frame designed for competitive fits. Should be able to have a 2-3" drop at least.

The thing is Cervelos have a long top tube compared other manufacturers, and a shorter headtube.

That's how both of my Cervelos came from the factory. Still haven't managed to get a proper fitting yet, but hoping to get all of them off if possible.

btw: what is a French fit?

Cervelos are purposely designed for racing, long top tubes and short head tubes to get as low as possible.

The French fit is essentially a level saddle and bars.

check out Jens, this crazy mofo runs with 5" of drop...

Thanks for the explanation!
That drop setup looks comfortable for about 2 seconds... Maybe I'll try it on my race bike first, and see how it feels...

You're racing on that fit? It takes conditioning, but you will get an easy 1-2 mph.

Per my previous posts, I am still trying to dial in the position. The Trek 2100 that I ride now has a bit of a relaxed geometry and I am working my way down into a more racing friendly position. My LBS started with the stack set quite high (spacers) and we can pull them down as I get some miles on the bike. Keep in mind, there is still an inch and half of drop in the current setup.

I love how people can diagnose bike fit from a few snaps. Obviously this is better than an actual fitting

The Stem is 110mm and has a 6 degree rise.

Yeah, this is how it is currently set up. I have approx 1.5" drop. I have no problem staying in the drops for the whole of a race... time to take out the hacksaw?

yeah, the fundraiser at brooklyn brewery. i had to run out to the liquor store to grab a bottle of jack daniels for him to sign... they auctioned one off at the event for $200+ (i think i got a better deal...)

i tried to get him to drink it with me and my friends, but he was whisked away shortly thereafter.
