Saw my first OCP at a LBS today
So I've seen them on MUP's before, but never actually while I was in a bike shop.
Full flashy kit, complete with sunglasses and brand new reload bag (www.reloadbags.com) Giant OCR c3 or whatever. Everything spotless, barely looked like it had been ridden. He was looking for an 11-23 cassette for his compact for that extra bit of badass.
To put the P in OCP:
Full scraggily beard and about 30 or 40 lbs extra "descending aid" as I like to call it. Saw him having trouble clipping in outside as I was unlocking my freddy surly right outside.
I guess if you find something you like and have a lot of money the more power to ya. Just seems like there should have been a few intermediate steps before beginning cycling and all those purchases.
I thought a cell phone picture would be too mean, but hopefully my description helps.

I've never heard "compact" and "badass" used in the same sentance, but at least his kit matched, and he didn't have a mirror on his glasses.

I run a compact 50/34 w/ 11-23... I'll have to keep an eye out for someone on a surly with a bike lock judging others so I can drope you... 'cause you know, I'm such a badass and all.

I rock a 50/34 x 11-23 also. And yes, I am a badass. And I would hardly call someone riding a Giant OCR3 a conspicuous spender.

I might embarrass myself here, but really, it's only the internet...
What is a OCP? And for that matter Freddy (I've also seen things described as Fred)?
Sorry if this has been addressed before.

Sounds more "Fred" than "OCP"...or maybe I don't follow the terms correctly and they're one in the same

Fred = someone who isn't training to be competitive and therefore doesn't wear competitive cycling clothing or build their bike up that way
OCP = someone who is very concerned about how their clothes, bike, and accompanying accessories look (together).

Hmmm, there's lots of Freds in the world. Heck, anyone who lives in the southern hemisphere must be Fred.

OCP = Obsessive Compulsive Poser
Someone who wants to be flashy, but doesn't really ride.
I ride 50/34 11-23, but that is because it was already on the bike and I am too poor to switch it out. However, it works so I may just leave it.
