Going from 28s to 23s
I dodge potholes, opussums and everything you can name in Texas. I am thinking about shrinking down from 28mm tires, which handle these sort of things pretty well, to 23mms Will I hate myself for doing so? I don't exactly ride velodrome type surfaces, but I know I would be faster. I do know how to lift myself out of the saddle when bad things lay ahead of me. Anyhow, how drastic is the difference between 28s and 23s. Just curious. The tires I would be switching to would be Hutchinson Tour de France grey and blacks (they match my bike, even more silly). I am currently riding Vittoria Rubino 28s. Should I switch over? Sorry for the silly question
Thanks!

why not try 700x25 and see how it is? They will be narrow enough to be fast and wide enough to be smooth.

I went from 23's to 28's and, wish I would have done it years ago. What a difference a little larger tire makes. If you do decide to reduce, I would agree with the poster that said try 25's. There is a bigger difference going from 23's to 25's than from 25's to 28's. So, they may be the best compromise especially if speed is a priority for you.
But those 28's on my bike have me spoiled.

Why bother? If you like 28's and aren't a racer r performance rider, don't change. But if you really do want to change, you'll probably notice better efficiency in your pedaling, if you get a good, high-quality tire, the bumps won't pose a problem. I've ridden some narrow tires, and haven't noticed huge differences. After riding 23's for a while, my 20mm Michelin Pro2's are coming Monday.

I went from a bike with 28s and an aluminum fork to a bike with 23s and carbon parts and the ride isn't any worse.
