Help buying beginner bike on Craigslist
Hello Everyone, I am looking to get into biking and decided to buy from craigslist. I found a listing for a bike that should fit me but I am not sure if the asking price of $400 is appropriate. Also, the listing didn't make too much sense as the seller thinks it is a KHS flite 800 but to me, it looks like a much cheaper model (maybe a 300). Text of classified and image:
MENS 54cm Road Bike Reynolds 853 Steel Frame Flight 800, Shimano Wheels, Tiagra 105 9 Speed, Speedometer/Odometer, this bike is practically NEW, hardly ridden!

Find out which parts are Tiagra and which are 105. That would determine the value to me. If the derailleurs are 105, it's worth $400 (imo). If only the cassette lockring is 105, I'd negotiate.

I wish I could see it better. However, it probably is worth pretty close to $400, barring any damage.

Ok here is a better picture of the bike. So the frame is a Flite 800. Any more thoughts on whether the pricing is appropriate?

Unless you are an expert on bike fittings, evaluating the condition of a bike, and assembling, tuning and repairing a bike, there is only only place to buy a road bike: your neighborhood bike shop.
The garages of America are full of "bargain" bikes that were the wrong size, or ended up needing repairs that exceeded the value of the bike. Good for gathering cobwebs, but not useful for riding.

If it is in good shape, then $400 is probably reasonable, but only if it fits you,and you are comfortable with it.
