Ridind clipless with regular shoes
Hey guys I am going to be buying my first pedal and shoe combination for my bike.
Shoes I have already decided on Sidi Genius 5.5 for there fit.
Now I am in a dilemma about pedals. I was going to get the new 6620 Shimano Ultegra pedals but heres my dilemma.
This will be my first clipless pedal so ease of entry exit is important. I dont mind the one sided entry.
I ride my bike to and from work (only a mile each way). Would it be possible to ride the Ultegra pedals in regular shoes to get to and from work? I mean it might not be that comfortable but will it damage anything?
i see something like the speedplays look like no problem to ride on with regular shoes

but there are so many pedal choices I dont know what to go with.
Thanks

It will not damage them, and yes it will be a little uncomfortable. Not much platform for regular shoes so your feet can slip off.
I often ride to the store with my eggbeaters and regular shoes.

Simply store the regular shoes at work and just use the cycling-specific ones to get back and forth. It's so much easier to ride clipless pedals with the correct shoes...even for short distances.

Throw the stick!!!!
No, it won't do any damage. It won't be comfortable though, especially if you are wearing dress shoes. I have the speedplay zero's. It is definitely "possible" ro ride with regular shoes but I have no desire to do so.

You might want to check out the Shimano A520's. That's what I have and while riding with street shoes isn't great, it works. If you're only going a mile, it shouldn't matter too much.

I have the 6620s and ride around the neighborhood with sandals. Definately not the most comfortable but I still have no problem 4 or so miles. If wet out, I wouldn't dare wear shoes bc of the fear of slipping. (Done before and racked pretty good) With any hills, just where the road shoes. (I have the same shoe) Only takes a little more time to be more comfortable.
6620 and the 5.5s =

A couple here: https://www.nashbar.com/results.cfm?c...ry%3A%20Pedals
and I've seen snap in platforms with toeclips, too. https://www.jensonusa.com/store/produ...+Adapters.aspx

Can you use Mt Bike cycling shoes with SPD pedals? They'd be easier to walk around with than road shoes.

By the way, I've used road SPD pedals and good quality MTB shoes for road cycling for years and have been totally satisfied with that set up. The shoes do everything I need them to do on the bike and are much more convenient than the road shoes/cleats I used years ago.
If you go that route, you can get clip on devices for your spd pedals that convert them to platform pedals. This is not the same as the pedals that are platform/SPD combo pedals. They are real clipless pedals and another device that quickly and easily converts them to platform for the commute.
Or if you just want to wear your cycling shoes for the commute, the MTB type shoe and cleat (spd, crank brothers, etc. etc.) is much better for even short walks.
I don't know if they make them for the other kinds (non-spd) of clipless pedals, but it might be worth checking into if you're committed to large cleats and road shoes.

My own experience is that you can't ride with regular shoes. They slip way too easily and the pedals don't have enough surface area. This was with the old style Looks. The Keos I use now are even smaller.

You can always get the speedplay's and buy the platforms.
