How long did you wait for your dream bike?
I think I'm pretty close to a decision on what to get but I have some financial goals I want to meet first. I also want to try to scrape together mostly (gently) used parts for the build which could take a while, build the wheels myself, etc...
...and no I'm not getting a Vanilla or a Richard Sachs

My dream bike changes every year. so no.
At one point, I lust after a Pinarello with record. Now I think Pinnas are ugly as hell.

After 7 yrs, just now got a new bike...not sure I would necessarily consider it my "dream" bike, but close. There's always something more lucrative out there to obsess over.

I would say my "Dream" bike would be a full custom carbon bike (calfee, parlee)
But I am riding my dream bike now, a custom steel that I built myself.

Mine just kind of fell into my lap.
A friend had the frameset built for him 2 years ago but the fit was too long and he had a bunch of weird problems. I have the same inseam and am 2" taller, so got it from him at an amazing price. I sent it to the painters to get some touch-up work done on some pretty serious paint chips, so I guess I waited 2 months for that.

Used to be a couch potato. (Still am when off the bike.) After one year of riding, helped organize a BikeForums group ride on the one year anniversary of my first ride. Went out and bought myself a dream bike the next day. Sure, the march of progress means that there's nicer bikes out in less than a year, but I still love her as much as the day I first rode her. Maybe even more so.

How long while saving or how long waiting after it's ordered? I saved money and purchased parts for a year. Once the cash was in hand took 6 month from the time I ordered the frame. Still not exactly complete just some finishing touches but it's being ridden.

Making a kilometer blurry
No dream bike. I dream of continuing to get faster. For me, saying "What's your dream bike?" is like saying "What's your dream hammer?"
Which, incidentally, is this one:

Got mine .... Turned out to be a bad dream though. End result is my "dream" bike is now my winter ride when the roads are salted up and my bad weather ride because I have no other use for it. Tried selling it with <200 miles, but couldn't really get any reasonable amount for it.

Longing for a Tail Wind
Nice Hammer.
Got mine for my 30th birthday. Sure there are other bikes that will turn my head, but it will be a long time before I consider anything different.

Dreaming is half the fun. I can only imagine that actually having a dream bike would be a bit of a letdown after a while. I know I've felt that way about frame upgrades that I've made in the past.
I'll feel that way as long as I'm young and poor, anyway.

still waiting. i'm riding an old beatup takara from the 80's. don't get me wrong, it fits, and i've done a lot of maintenance to it, so it runs smoothly. but i pine for carbon frames, 10 speed cassettes, ultra light wheels, brifters, clipless pedals, etc
but i'm still starting off with cycling, and i figure if i stay interested for a year or so on this crappy bike, then i'm in for the long haul, and can justify dropping $1,500 or more on a bike.
