Riding from Fort Smith, AR
I'm heading to Fort Smith this weekend for a blues festival and am thinking about taking the roadie so I can get some miles in on Saturday morning. Does anyone have any suggestions for rides there?

FT. Smith has a long closed trail for road bikes. It starts in Barling.....a suburb of FT. Smith. Also a lot of the county roads have very little traffic and have some very good climbs.
|
The Race Across AMerica went through there last weekend. Go to Bikely.com and look up the RAAM route. Gives you something to ride east or west. Pick your preferred turn-around, Oceanside or Atlantic City.

I can't imagine NOT finding great riding in that area. I've ridden near Little Rock and loved it. And I've been all over Arkansas in a car dying to get out and on the bike. Very nice state for riding.

Thanks for the props, gfrance.
I used to live in Ft. Smith about 15 years ago. I rode a mtn bike then - no road bike. We used to ride offroad out by Fionna (sp??) Hills subdivision. I'm sure a lot has changed since then though. I know there used to be a group that would ride to Fayetteville and back from Ft. Smith on Hwy 71. That is some serious climbing on the way to Fayetteville. |
