I have an older pair of Vuelta rims that you can have if you want. They are soft, heavy, and I flatted a lot until I replaced them. Not good in my opinion.

depends on your actual wheel budget, but you can get some hand built wheels pretty cheap.

something like open pro rims, straight guage spokes, decent hubs... maybe look at excel sports. it should fall under $300, and they will be good wheels

you can usually find a set of Mavic Open Pro/Ultegra wheels at Performance for $225

http://www.performancebike.com/shop/...TOKEN=31713480

i still have a set of their Mavic Open Pro/Dura-Ace 7700 wheels sitting in the box, i paid $240 + shipping for them at the end of last year, if you want them i'll sell them to you for what i paid for them + shipping. they're 32/32, all silver, and there was never a cassette ever installed on them. PM me if you're interested...

to the OP, that is a pretty good deal... better than any option so far.

The Xeros are what I'd buy, assuming you aren't heavy. I've got them on my bike and they work very well. But I only weigh 145 so they don't even know I'm riding them. Search the forums and read the reviews. They are fine. A local bike builder specs them on his $2k+ bikes as original equipment.

The Xeros are only 1520g per pair, vs at least 1700 for the Open Pros. They look better too.

I used to be in the OP/Ultegra camp, but 1800g is just too heavy these days when an entire carbon frame weighs half that. There are lots of wheelsets out there that are the same price but almost a pound lighter. Campy a bit harder since there aren't as many around. A few months ago I found a pair of Real Design Super Spheres for under $200 shipped from Nashbar. 1430g without skewers! You have to keep checking for closeouts.

Ignore all of the above if you're over 200 lbs.

Light, stiff, inexpensive. Pick two. I shudder at the thought of a 1430g $200 wheelset.

I just want bomb proof & inexpensive, good looks would be an added bonus...
I dont care to much about the weight of the wheels.

If you plan on any racing or fast riding with friends, the XR-1's will be your best bet. They're actually very good for climbing too. I have a set on my Ti bike, and they have been very good so far. They are 1520g, stiff, and are still true after a couple thousand miles of general and hard riding. I would have no problem buying another set.

For a CAAD 8 , the intent is to get it generally pretty light, so you may want to stay away from the Vueltas unless you wanted something for training or even commuting. They are pretty tough for that.

The wheel budget is set at $250 so I am trying to find something that i like in that price range...
I like the looks of these...

I will look into having a set of these built for me tomorrow ...
I like the looks, and the price...
one of the local MI roadies who is also a BF member(Eljamoquio) told me that they were quite good...
I think that they are built up buy hand when you order a set from Bikesport a local tri/road speciality store.
anyone know anything about em?

Patriot 06-22-07 05:45 PM

^^^ Nope, never heard of 'em. Sorry. :(
