Cold weather breathing
Contrary to most of the folks on this site my home is bloody cold at the moment. Just yesterday I came off the bike on my commute due to ice on the road.. But thats another story.
I'm finding that over winter I am noticeably slower on the same routes that I took in summer. A friend and bike rider said that this is because my body is using a percentage of energy trying to keep warm, and in cold air oxygen transfer to the lungs isn't as good. Is this true?
Or am I having a case of winter lazyness?
What say you folks? Thanks.

I ride year round (as do many others here in colder places). Seems to pretty uniform that you're slower when it's cold enough to freeze. Variety of causes and theories have been offered. Accept it and enjoy the ride.

Colder air -> denser air -> more aerodynamic drag.
Not sure if it's enough to make a difference...

Unless you're in the snowys or tassie i dont want to hear it mate! Friends back home in Syd are complaining of the cold, and when they tell me the actual temps i cant help but laugh.
Sorry nothing useful from me....just wanted to give you a hard time because deep down im jelous and deeply miss home.

There are a whole heap of reasons offered for it, but whatever the reason the fact remains ... chances are you'll be slower in the winter. That's the way it goes.
