Choice for road bike

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Choice for road bike

I'm a 16 year-old with some road riding experience, obtained through the use of my fixed gear bike. A previous lack of funds caused me to settle for using this, but after my summer job is completed, and with some help from my parents, i'll will have enough money to buy a road bike within the $1000-$1500 range. I have done a fair amount of research and have reached a final selection of three choices. These are the Giant TCR A1 ($1400), the Trek 1500 ($1150), and the Felt F75 ($1400). These prices are based on MSRP for 2007 models. I'd like your oppinions on which of these three would suit me best and be the best value. Also, if you insist, you may suggest a bike i have not been considering.

I am just a noob but I did just go through the same thing you are describing and test road just about any brand you can name. All I can say, and maybe some with more knowledge will correct me, is that in any given price range all the brands seem to compare quite favorably to each other. I researched this stuff to death, and test road them all and asked WAY too many questions at every bike shop I went to (about 12)

With that said, it may sound like I am not much help here but .... The point is first try a bunch and see how they feel to you. If you are like me they will all overlap a lot more than they will stand out from each other. Then get the one that is the best deal at the time, that you know you like the way it feels AND looks, and from a LBS that is a pleasure to buy from and gives that extra post sales support. As you will see from every search on this forum, fit is EVERYTHING. And you will get any LBS worth a darn to give you a proper fitting on any of those you listed

There will be a 1000 opinions one every brand you can name. But from my experience it is all based on what each person owns or have owned. Someone riding a Trek 1500 is not going to tell you to buy the Giant as they would be dissing their own ride. The exception being the more seasoned riders here that are light years ahead of the level of bike you are looking at and can be quite objective. And I assume most would agree with what this noob just posted.

I hope that helps. Enjoy the search, the chase is part of the fun

^^^ Yeah, I must agree... Just don't blow off this advise. If you are willing to spend your very well earned money (and part of your parents), test ride the bikes!!! You won't regret it. Nothing anyone can say on this forum should totally sway you from any of those bikes (they're all great). FIT is the most important.

i guess it's wrong to assume that you'll like how a bike rides just because of its price and specs. thanks for the advice.
