I like lycra
I feel weird saying this, but i like lycra. Coming from the mountain biking world years ago I allways thought roadies to be a weird bunch with latent *****exual tendancies. but ive come to realize that dang, if you have the body spandex is awesome.
That is all. |
There is no doubt that our unique clothing gets questionable looks but what most onlookers don’t realize is that those funny shorts and jerseys really are necessary to a comfortable ride. Anyone who’s tried to ride in a pair of running shorts and a floppy t-shirt could attest to this.
It is a shame that lycra does tend to make people question your sexuality. |
Who said anything about "latent" big boy?

Football players wear spandex and pile on top of each other while tens of thousands of drunk men watch - not gay
Figure skaters wear spandex and dance around with each other - kinda gay Cyclists wear lycra and tight jersey's - totally gay Sometimes the world doesn't make sense. |
I always thought it was odd that people call cyclists 'gay guys in spandex'. The pain associated with road cycling doesn't fit the gay norm.

I see the reason for the cycling gear, and even have a jersey of my own, still think the shorts are flamerific (though I'll be wearing some as soon as I UPS comes).

As for spandex, I tried out some of my girlfriend's rowing spandex about a week ago, and was so amazed that I had to order shorts and a jersey. Those arrived today, and I took them on a 12-mile shakedown ride in the horrible heat and humidity. Oh, it's true! This stuff is wonderful. Only problem is that I haven't figured out how to arrange my *ahem* equipment properly in the shorts, yet. I have to adjust every time I get off the bike... the motion of my legs seems to move things in a vertical direction. Feels and looks fine on the bike, looks and feels a little odd when I stand up. Okay, do I get the TMI award? :D Anyway, good stuff, but definitely not necessary whenever I get on a bike. Hey, I'll still ride in jeans on my commuter bike. |
