Best CO2 inflator?
 

Alright I got new wheels, now I'm fedup with the ugly roadmorph. What's the best CO2 inflator system out there that'll fit in an undersaddle bag?

I've been really happy with my Innovations Second Wind inflator.

It's slightly larger than the Air Chuck, but it has two VERY nice features
1.) the inflater actually threads onto your tire valve - prevents expensive misfires
2.) very easy to regulate

I've found the simple reeeaaally basic ones to work the best. Either the Innovations Air Chuck or a knock-off that works the same way. Anything else and it's just more to fumble with. You can easily control how much air flow you have with the Air Chuck by just pressing harder/softer, so I don't see what other control is required.

I have a wrench force two shot which I really like. It is a combo mini hand pump and CO2 inflator (much like the one linked to above). The mini hand pump feature is really useful to get just a bit of air into the tube to get it to take shape.

Alright thanks guys, got th Air Chuck. Walmart doesn't seem to sell threaded cartridges. Dangit!

THIS for the road bike cuz it's small.

THIS for other bikes cuz it is most versatile. It accepts all cartridges.

I have the Planet Bike Red Zeppelin original and used it probably 15 times in the last 3 years. It has worked flawlessly each time even when first bought it and really didn't know what I was doing. I never carry a pump just the PB, tube 2 carts and a small glueless patch kit.

+1 for the microflate< works exactly as advertised.

Where's a good place to get threaded 16g cartridges?

I also have the Air Chuck SL and love it. The Air Chuck is small, light and made of metal.

I didn't have the heart to tell the spammer that anyone who wastes their money on their stupid expensive cartridges is pissing away their cash, one should just use a pump or if you must use c02 just get the cheap cartridges at WalMart.

Tire size. 12 gram won't generally fill a tire to full pressure, although it usually does fill it after I say "screw this" to hand pumping. :D

I have an inflator with a little gauge on it. I like being able to make sure it is pressed where I want it.

Keep in mind, I rarely take a spare tube along anymore.


I just use my cell phone to call my wife, in the rare event of a flat. :D

IMHO the real reason to use 12g is you can get them dirt cheap at WalMart and they will get you up to approx 90PSI with usual road tires, which is enough to get you home.

I bought the Red Zeppelin in response to this and another recommendation posted on BF. I finally used it today. It is simple to operate and works perfectly. I couldn't be happier. It only took a few moments to thread the CO2 cartridge into the inflater then the inflater onto the tire valve.

12g CO2 cartridge = 30 psi
16g CO2 cartridge = 40 psi

It came with two 16g cartridges.

You can get 30 threaded, 16 gram cartridges on Ebay for around $40, including shipping. At least I did. Or was it $30 for 40 cartridges? Either way, that's probably a lifetime supply for me. I think I've used one in the past year.
