Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

More than I thought it would, 16.25 w/ pedals and cages. The Calfee is at 15.4 with everthing, the Legend came in at 17.58 w/ the Carbons (16.88 with its normal set of wheels on).

I am digging the Calfee too right now. It seems to do everything pretty damn good. Not bad for a 4-5 year old carbon bike.

I would, but you never know when it may need to turn back into a geared bike.

A monocoque carbon fibre fixed gear? Color me impressed.

You need a Cyclocross to finish off that very impressive stable.

I would love one, but the wife freaked out on me the other day when she came out in the garage and said," SIX BIKES! When the HELL did you get SIX BIKES! You only have one butt and two legs". I was pretty speachless at that point and tried to change the subject. So the Cyclocross may have to wait.

Wrong answer. That's when you go into her shoe closet and say "30 pairs of shoes?? You only have 2 feet. Why the hell do you need 30 pairs of shoes?"

Then enjoy the chilly nights while you're sleeping in the shed.

I've got a Jamis Eclipse 853 steel bike, and Gary Fisher Montare Dual Sport, and a Masi Gran Corsa frame stashed somewhere.

It ain't worth arguing with her as its not a subject I can win . I just need to thin the herd a little. The Jamis and the Masi (once I build it up again) have drawn the short straw.

The CAAD 9 is my main choice for racing, although I have now done 2 races on the fixed gear. I did the Mt. Hood Classic on the CAAD and it was a great bike, but my next long, hilly road race will be on the Calfee.

I would have to say the Calfee at this point, although the CAAD is a great bike. It is stiff and reassuring in sprints and descents, a perfect race bike. The Calfee just does everything well, and feels good doing it . I just want to ride the Calfee all the time, especially uphills. I did a 62 miler yesterday with 7500 ft of climbing, and the Calfee made it all the more pleasurable.
