Would this Performance tool kit be a good investment as a starter kit? Or isn't it worth the money?

My biggest concern is the quality of the torque wrench, although there may be other things I should be more concerned about?

Years ago when I needed a starter tool kit, I bought an earlier version of this kit. It's a fine starter kit, but the quality is mediocer. You'd probably be better off buying individual tools as you need them.

I slowely replaced all of the tools with better quality brands such as Park, Wrench Force, and Pedro's. The basic items such as the allen keys, and cone wrenches are still in my tool box. Some of the more specific items, such as the chain whip, chain tool, sprocket tool, and BB tool aren't up to par with the better quality tools.

If I were you, I'd get a good set of allen wrenhes from Sears, Park chain tool, sprocket tool, chain whip, and spoke wrenches You can get all of these items for around $60 total. Then, you just buy more things as you need them. Just my 2 cents.

oh, and by the way, the Spin Doc kit doesn't come with a torque wrench. It comes with a Torx wrench, which is only used on some mountain bike disc brake rotors and cost about $4 from Sears anyway.

Well, it depends what you're using them for. Park quality is usually pretty good. But for a home shop, I'd buy Park's more "substantial" tools instead of their portable kit. The allen tools look good in that kit. The cable cutter is also probably pretty nice.

Definitely, yes—assuming that you have a recent bike. The tools are mostly by Lifu and they make good stuff. I'm not a big fan of the cone wrenches and they don't include a 17mm, but they are usable and the other tools are more than adequate.


?? There's no torque wrench in that kit. Are you that clueless about tools?

There's always something better. The OP asked if the Spin Doctor kit is good enough. It certainly is.
