Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

40 ... started riding when I was 6 ... started riding "seriously" (in a commited, consistent way) when I was 23. I've been keeping a cycling log for 17 years!

During that time I've riden racing bicycles, touring bicycles, mtn bikes, tandems, a couple different recumbents, and a recumbent trike ... so far.

27. Been riding since I was about 3 years old, with a few years off after I got my first car. Bought my first road bike 2 weeks ago... and I already want another one.

Nice avatar. I just lent his book out the other day.

As for me, I've been riding since I was 13, this was my first 'real' season, with a good bike and gear. First competitive year, too. My first race was in late April, and so far I've only won time trials and track races.
I also started as a road-only rider, then I did track, then I did my first mountian bike race today.

36, I've been riding a bike since I was 8 years of age and have gone from cheap BMX's and mountain bikes until I was 23. I then took a 12 year hiatus because "somebody" gave my mountain bike away and started riding again last year to get fit. I discovered road riding last November and have been addicted ever since.

I'm 29 and while I've ridden for most of my life, it's only been very casually and for short rides until this past year. I only got into real cycling this past August, and regret all of the time I wasted.

57 here.

Learned to ride a bicycle when I was about 9 or 10. Rode my bike to school in elementary school, got away from riding during my teens and college years. Picked it up again in my mid to late 20's. Rode a lot until we started having a family in '87. Then I tapered off until '97 when we moved to California and the kids were a bit older.
