To Rest or Recover?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

To Rest or Recover?

I've got my first 50 mile ride coming up this Sunday. Yesterday, I had an indoor lacrosse game followed by a 40 minute 10 mile bike ride. So my legs are a bit sore, and my back is a little achy. (whaaa)
Today, it's a beautiful day and I'm really itching to go for a ride. So, should I rest off the bike or recover on it? I was planning on taking one day off this week, but wanted it to be a little closer to my half-century on Saturday.

I don't think there's anything wrong with an easy spin 1-2 hours or so. Who knows, it might even help loosen up your legs. If you are still really sore, you may want to try an ice-bath. BDG recommended them after a hard run or Du and I have to say they really work! I felt like I had new legs the last time I did one.

Ride all you want, but take the day before the ride off.
