Are Bikes Direct decals removable?

Can the decals from the various Bikes Direct bikes (Motebecane, Dawes, Mercier, etc.) be removed or are they clear-coated? Anyone tried? Sometimes a heat gun or blow dryer will loosen decals.

They are clear coated over.

- i butter-knifed 'em off my BD ss/fixie...

Why would you want to remove them?

too many decals == look awful, IMO

Ok...I did the knife under the clearcoat thing and must admit I regret it. My "repaint" is much uglier than the cheap BD paintjob-they did it poorly but they did it in a controlled facility.

Whilre spraying away with wind and all in the park just yield crappy paint job period.

Mmm. Motobecane. It just exudes French racing bike. It's why I bought my bike, really.

My Carbonello stickers (Litespeed . . . VeloNews . . . remember?) are collecting dust. I refuse to throw them out. What better frame to put them on.

it depends. On my Mercier (same frame they have sold as Moto and bott) they had a very fine clear coat over them and were easy to take off without any damage. Not the fork though . . . it is on there for good.

i got mine off the fork. it was a bit harder, but doable.

I was trying to take the warning lables off my new felt, but i stopped because i figured it would leave a gooey mess behind and attract dirt.

Warning labels? You don't need no stinkin' warning labels! Rip 'em off, get a clean rag and some WD-40 and go to town. WD-40 is a spectacular grease/gum/guey stuff cutter. Some strong dish soap would also do the trick.

My Motobecane 700HT MTB bikes have no no clear coat over the decales. They could easily come off and probably will on their own eventually. I like them on there.

Moto IF and Windsor Knight are both clear coated over. Again, I see no reason to de-decal.
