What do you guys do with all the spare "high end" parts?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What do you guys do with all the spare "high end" parts?

do you sell it? or do you just keep it for spares?

I now have a full 8 speed sora, a full 9speed tiagra, and a hodgepodge of 10 speed 105 to DA spare shifters. I'm thinking of just ebaying....but then I learned that I let go too many nice things for too cheap in the past only to need them later in the long run.

Anyone has a better way to justify selling all the spares? I'l probably recoup about atleast 600-800 dollars in parts.

I *might* be interested in the sora or tiagra stuff if the wear isn't too bad and depending on the price.

Being a dolt, I have frequently bought the wrong parts for my build from eBay. Either that or changed my mind on something. Back on eBay they go and I seem to make out about even. Profit on some parts, loss on others.

I'm in the same boat with the parts. I'll keep some around if I crash in a race, otherwise I'll get around to putting them up for sale here or another online forum first then onto ebay if they don't sell.

Or you can buy a used frame or two and put together bike(s) for a rain/commuter/beater bike.

Not to be rude but I dont think sora, tiagra, 105 or even non 7800 series DA would be "High end". That being said, ebay is great because there is always someone looking for parts to replace or upgrade. High end stuff(stuff you get from boutique shops like fairwheelbikes) has a much more selective buyer.

Why did you take the old stuff off to begin with, was it weight, poor shifting performance, etc? If you removed it for a reason then you probably aren't going to be happy with it if you put it back so I would sell it.

Spare parts just mean fewer missing parts for a new bike

I have a box full of spare bike parts in my garage. It's right next to the box of spare motorcycle parts.

I've got a couple of stems, a seatpost, a Fizik Arione saddle, a couple of cassettes, a couple different handlebars, a rear derailleur and a bunch of other misc. bike stuff.

This has been my solution. Just buy another frame to go with the parts you have. You may end up with way more bikes than you ever thought you would own but it is fun to build them up.

I try to trade them.

If that fails, I give them to people who will provide them with good homes.

If I have enough parts to build a full bike, sometimes I will find a cheap frame, build it up and sell the bike. Right now I'm building an old Schwinn frame with 9spd ultegra for my little brother.
