Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hard decision

For my 15th anniversary my wife gave me a Garmin 205 (gotta love that woman!) When she gave it to me she apologized that they were out of the 305. So my question is, should I swap the 205 for a 305? It is over $100 more.... is it that much better?

I know tough decisions....

See details below. One of the biggest differences is the HRM. You get it with the 305 but not the 205. What are you looking to do? How much does knowing/recording heart rate matter to you?

The 305 also has an altimeter and cadence, the 205 looks like it is missing those features. The heartrate is interesting but not necessary for me.

If the 205 is missing the altimeter, then I'd say go for the 305. I've got one, and love analyzing the numbers post-ride, especially with all the hills up in the PNW!

The 205 has an altimeter, it just uses GPS for the data which is garbage - the 305 altimeter works pretty well.

Ordered a 305 this morning, I found one for $230 including shipping. I will need to buy the heart rate attachment for it though.

That's nothing. For my 10th anniversary my wife gave me a divorce.
