07 Giro Atmos on sale at Nashbar 14% + 20%

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

07 Giro Atmos on sale at Nashbar 14% + 20%

Just ordered a new dome protector (2007 Giro Atmos) from www.nashbar.com for $140 shipped and post tax. Extra 20% off until the 12th with "JYTWTY" code ... which is today. Not bad ... ebay is about the same, but why bother with ebay when this is from a real store.

Oh and the red/white/blue one is even cheaper.

- yep, got that one last year for $79!

- but i've noticed that nashbar now changes prices almost daily, and now always seems to 'up' prices on all items to coincide with a 'sale'...

<sigh>, i'm going to browse AE Bike for items instead (have found that in many instances, items are always cheaper there even with 10/15/20 percent off discounts at other sites)...

Performance has the same price for the r/w/b Atmos. Giro has a new helmet coming out (forget the name) to replace the atmos so expect clearance sales until they are all gone.

Because my dealings with eBay are better than my dealings with Nashbar/Performance?

I bought a 2007 Atmos from Performance a week or so ago when they had them on sale and I got it for $130.

I sent that POS back as I was very unsatisfied with the quality considering the cost. The Roc Loc on the back was defective and wouldn't stay tight against my head. The bonding of the plastic to the foam was also very poor and not very clean looking.

My Giro helmet from three years ago cost no more than $60 and it is much better than the Atmos I received.

I have a new Atmos as well, and found that setting it up correctly it was crucial to how well it fit and how comfortable it was. Now it's hard to notice it's even there!

It was important to get the straps adjusted to place teh helmet in the right position, which took a bit of fiddling. Now it sits right, and doesn't want to tilt back as it did before adjusting it.

I also found that the RocLoc system won't function correctly if the straps aren't adjusted right. Now it works fine, and I can loosen or tighten the RocLoc adjusters to compensate for skull cap etc. without a problem.

Performance has already been bought out by an equity investor.

I'd ask if the customer service would get better or worse, but the only way it could get worse is if they came to your house and started poking you with a fork.

How ironic that would be, since when it comes to them, I'm done.

Kudos to the BF member that pointed me to Edina Bike and Sport with prices and selection on par with AEBike, but I get local pick-up in less than 48 hours after shopping in my living room. Now that's a dream come true.

I also purchased an Atmos about 6 months ago and, took it back. Too much wind noise and, that Rocloc system seemed awkward and irritating. I then tried a Bell Sweep and liked it much better. In the future I want to try the Specialized Decibel but for now, the Sweep does just fine, fits good, is low noise, and is easy to adjust.
