I had an accident this morning.
I was 18miles to intersection and it was green light, then I saw a black car hit a gas and ignore his red light.
As soon as I saw the car, I hit the brake and I couldn't think any just I was laying on street.
When I try to stand, the black car ran away.:(
There was 3 more car and I ask a police, then a car that was waiting right next the balck car asked me I was alright. and I asked him to get his plate number(yes, I said please) and he run after the black car.

ANyway, he got me the plate number as well as car model name. Thank god and him.
I made a police report but nobody knew who hit who but everybody was sure the black car ran on RED light.

My bike looked ok but rear wheel was bent and shifter was badly scretched.
My helmet looked ok but inside was cracked.

Me? there are more pain comes one after one. Not bad but I can't turn my right hand and hip bone is little hurt. Yes, I'll stop by a doctor tomorrow.

Anyway, safty ride guys.

A car asked you if you were alright? You must have really whacked your head.

Glad you are ok.

Haha, yes, it was transformer...:D
I mean a driver. :o

By the way, I can't use the helmet, do I?
I loved my Atmos helmet,...which one should I buy?

freefree113 07-15-07 12:36 PM

Sorry to hear that man. You're right, you can't use your helmet anymore, they are supposed to break in an accident.

Rocke 07-15-07 12:49 PM

If you hit your head hard enough to crack your helmet, you should go to the Dr. ASAP.
Even with a helmet you can have significant concussion. My Specialized helmet did not crack when I hit in May, and I was unconscious for quite some time and had a brain bleed (amongst other issues).
Alcohol, and other drugs like aspirin can be very dangerous if you have a hidden injury to your brain, go see your Dr. and get cleared before doing anything else. It may be nothing, or it may be very significant, a slow brain bleed, or swelling, can be asymptomatic for some time, then you are screwed. I blow off most things, but not head trauma. Go to your Dr. With any luck, I will ride in a few months after being off since May 6, from head trauma.

Nope, it has done it's job. They are designed to crush upon impact. After that happens, they lose their effectiveness for protecting during future accidents.

I'd say that you have already proven the effectiveness of the Atmos, and you like it, so the choice should be pretty clear cut - just decide on color. :)

I'm glad the accident wasn't worse, and I wish you a speedy recovery.

Edit: Rocke's advice sounds very good as well!

John Wilke 07-15-07 01:15 PM

Glad your helmet did it's job.

Heal well.

Blue Jays 07-15-07 01:44 PM

Hope they catch the guy who hit you and witnesses step forward to help. Best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery.

I'm happy that it wasn't worse. It's good to hear that you will be continuing cycling though!!!!

powerglide 07-15-07 02:16 PM

Get well soon!

TrekDen 07-15-07 03:28 PM

Hey man, glad your okay to ride another day. Hope they catch the fool, and fix them good.

Brycycle 07-15-07 03:55 PM

definitely follow FIVE ON SIX's advice. you will get a new helmet at the best price (well, a very good price anyways), and sending crashed helmets back to the company allows them to analyze field crash damages in order to make better/safer helmets in the future; win/win.

oh - and get better soon.

grahny 07-15-07 05:39 PM

Go here:

http://www.giro.com/main.html

Go to 'Giro main info', then FAQ, then look at the last one about their crash replacement program.

Had a crash about a month ago and busted up my helmet. Called Giro and got a new Atmos for $122.50. They said it would be about 10 days till it showed up, had it in 3. Great to deal with, all they will need is the serial number and manufacture date. Rest and get back out and ride when you feel better.

cooker 07-15-07 06:21 PM

Glad you're okay. Update us later on about the black car, etc.

slvoid 07-15-07 06:58 PM

Glad you're ok.
And seriously, send the guy who ran after the car a thank you card or something.

doctortalk121 07-15-07 07:56 PM

mikeE46 07-15-07 08:36 PM

Thank you guys.
I'll call them tomorrow morning.

Anyway, my wrist is painful and getting worse.
I'll stop by police office tomorrow and get a police report to see who is the guy.

I just wish I can get some money for my bented rear wheel( I just bought a Real design carbon wheel  )

anyway, thank you guys again. :)

Well, since we are at the topic and there is a bunch of New Yorkers in here, I'll tell you my crash from monday. I went for a ride in the Central Park with my ex-boss and as we are climbing the Harlem Hill (long hill at the north-most tip of the park), I suddenly find myself flying over the handle bars. My bike landed right on top of me, according to my boss it was a very scary sight, but I did a perfect roll.

Guess what - the rain drain that used to have a small bicycle-safe grating now has a grill on top of it that perfectly catches the front wheel. So, the damage - scraped elbow, destroyed front wheel and (i guess) some damage to the fork. No visible damage to my helmet, but I replaced that one Friday when I bought a new bike.
