should I buy Bianchi Brava?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

should I buy Bianchi Brava?

ok, I have been looking around for a used road bike. I dont see many locally. There is one on CL. Looks in really good shape. has Shimano Sora...I dont know where that fits in...seems like that is closer to entry level to me. They want 350 for it.

what do you think? good deal? or keep looking locally?

If i were you i would try to stay away from the Shimano Sora's, the are perfectly ok but if you end up liking biking and riding alot you will realize that you won't want to worry about shifting carefully. In my opinion if you can fork over $650 for something like the 2007 trek 1000, you would be far better off. It comes equiped with Shimano tiagra's and will fare you better after your first thousand miles. Im not saying that the Sora's are bad, the only thing is you have to hold the shifter down for a bit to wwait for it to shift onto the gear, then put it back. After a while you won't want to have to do that. But if 350 bucks is all you want to spend i say go for it.

$350 is a good deal for a Brava, as long as it works.

Some user reviews of the Sora.

As far as I know, the only Tiagra part on a Trek 1000 is the RD. A new bike with Tiagra shifters will run closer to $850-900.

To the OP, if the bike is in good shape and fits - buy it. You'll eventually want to upgrade if you enjoy the sport enough. But this one will serve you for a long time and you'll have more money saved up and be a much wiser consumer when you start shopping again in a few years.

New on closeout? You landed a great deal. That bike is more typically around a grand, even with a modest sale.
