***UCONN/Connecticut/New England Group Ride***

Alright....after Sundays' great ride along the NH seacoast, it's time to do a bit longer and hillier ride :).

When: August 4th, 10 a.m.
Where: Starting from the UCONN Storrs campus, Lot 9
Route: To be determined, but there will be some climbs. If people are up to it, a trip through Bigelow Hollow State Park can be arranged - plan on some extended 10-12% sections.
Pace: Not nearly as fast as Hampton Beach, due to the climbing. Frequent re-grouping will occur.
Distance: In the 40-60 mile or so range, depending on the route

TENTATIVE ROUTE: http://www.routeslip.com/routes/53251

Possible ice cream stop along the way depending on the route, so bring some money :)

We can do a late lunch afterwards, but I'm broke and can't treat the whole group :(

Parking will be in Lot 9 right off of North Hillside Road. To get there, take Rte. 195/Storrs Road into Storrs and then get on North Eagleville Road. At the second light (I think), take a left onto North Hillside Road, and you'll see a parking lot on your right. Here is a map of the campus: http://www.uconn.edu/campuses/pdf/wholemap.pdf - zoom in a bit and scroll around, and it should be easy to find

*edit* A second weekend of August 11th (12th rain date) is in the works for those who can't do the other one.

hmm...we'll see. I may be doing a race that weekend, otherwise I'd be game.

TheKillerPenguin 07-17-07 10:11 AM

Doc Reilley, in Cobleskill, NY. All depends on whether or not I'm a cat2 by then.

Sounds like a great ride. I don't know if it would actually impact the response to your ride, but just as an fyi Aug 4/5 is the weekend of the "Pan Mass Challenge" a charity ride that ties up a whole slew of roadies.

GuitarWizard 07-17-07 10:13 AM

What happened to racing in the 3's against The Cypress at Hilltowns?

Hmmm....never heard of it.

Another option is the weekend of the 11th

TheKillerPenguin 07-17-07 10:14 AM

I want to do the GMSR as a 2, but I don't want it to be my first race as a 2. Hilltowns would be an ideal test race. Besides, its a p/1/2/3 field, t3h cypress needs only to change the field he races in :D

The Tour of Litchfield Hills is on the 5th, not sure of the impact to who will be able to attend. http://www.tourofthelitchfieldhills.com/ for more info, $30 entry.

I know for myself I am not going to attend because I have to walk up some steep/long hills right now. I am not sure how long it would take me to walk up a 12% grade in my cycling shoes! :)

GuitarWizard 07-17-07 10:18 AM

Ahhhh.....yeah. That could work.

Ryleeryno 07-17-07 10:30 AM

You can count me in GuitarWizard.

eippo1 07-17-07 10:44 AM

Sounds cool, but I got the Concord Crit to go to that weekend.

onkey 07-17-07 10:49 AM

I might be able to swing this. Keep me posted!

I hate you:p count me in, Ill try my best :)
and I have connections which made the lunch treat easy to do, otherwise you would of been all on your own:p so dont sweat it!

Ryleeryno 07-17-07 11:34 AM

BDG, you can draft me again. This time not into a parking vehicle. :)

JNorm 07-17-07 11:35 AM

If I can get either swimbike or another friend from the area to drive down with me then count me in. I just don't really feel like driving all the way down there by my lonesome. I'll keep you posted.

And BDG, don't worry, you won't be the only one getting worked by hills X_x! So if I go you'll at least have one wheel to draft ;)

GuitarWizard 07-17-07 11:38 AM

What kinda gearing ya got on your bike there, BDG?

I don't want to go to great lengths to destroy people, but avoiding hills around here is a bit impossible.

Yeah, I'm currently planning on doing this on the 5th (assuming it doesn't get rained out again), but I could swing a BF ride the day before. Another option is the next weekend -- spindog's awesome calendar doesn't show anything going on that weekend.

badkarma 07-17-07 11:42 AM

I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it, I'll let you know as we get closer to the date.

Right, lets not try to see who's machine is stronger this time... Car vs. Bike = Car wins

GuitarWizard 07-17-07 11:45 AM

The 11th isn't totally out of the picture....

Or...

We could do both weekends :D
