Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just some advice if you have any!

Ok, I'm starting to enjoy these rides I go on everyday, they make me feel "good" not sure why but it does. I've been using my buddies old Mountain Bike a Mongoose XR200 well I just bought it from him after I had to replace the derailer. Its a 7speed and I was wanting to atleast get some good road tires and a comfortable, seat, and some new pedals. I'm not sure what to get though, all this is new to me. I'm looking for some silver/chrome/shiny pedals. A nice comfortable seat that isn't hard on the lower back. Some 26inch road tires I'm not looking to break my wallet either so just some best bang for the buck stuff.

Thanks!

So that would put you at an average speed of roughly 30 mph. Not bad for a noobie. I'd say there's no reason to upgrade if you're getting those kinds of speeds.

Well its mostly my legs doing all that. I push myself really hard every time I ride to the point everytime I get off the bike my legs feel like Jell-o. This isn't a sport for me anyways, its just fun...Maybe in the future when I get better I'll compete but I don't think I can right now.

What a smart *****. I just don't see the point in spending 1500$ on a bike when you get one that does the same thing for 150$. It rides it changes gears smoothly gives me a work-out thats all I need. I'm usually riding my bike the entire time in 18th gear so you can just imagine what the legs feel like when you step off.

Join the Army like I did they will wip your legs into shape. I can run 20 miles no problem.

Measurements

Weight 141llbs
Height 5'5
Thight 29inches
Bicep 15 inches
Chest 24inches even

Speed
40 yard - 4.5secs
100 yard - 10.6
1 mile - 5:32
2 mile - 10:47

These are the test scores from Highschool football and PT tests I had to take in the Army.
I've always been stocky but PT really does help, ecspecially when you have to sprint 100 yards with a man on your back...

Siefer I'm not sure you grasp the concept of accurate measurement. You've got thighs as big as my waist, a 24" chest, and run your 2nd mile quicker than your 1st?

I'm pretty sure my chest is that wide my g/f just did it for me...Dude I'm telling you I'm Broad Shouldered and I have huge thighs now my calf on the other hand is kinda funny too look at. I have a big body with tiny supporters! Man I'm just a fitness fanatic. I bench 200llbs well over my weight. Yes my 2nd mile is faster because I sprinted the last half a lap.

I had a full scholarship to WVU, UNC, NCSTATE, and a bunch of others those were the only ones that meant a hoot to me. I figured I'd take this once in a life time chance to blow some crap up and get my education throught the army, because they are paying me to stay fit...back to the subject though where can I get that stuff?/what should I start looking at first?/what are the best items...

You're not averaging 30 mph (10-20 miles in 20-40 minutes) unless your whole ride is downhill. You just aren't. Period. Done. At ease.

Take your Mongoose to any local club ride. Ride as you stated in your original post. They will find you.

No one doubts your fitness, nor should anyone think you're lying. But the reason why you're getting these kinds of replies is that what you're telling us is, with 100% certainty, false. 30 MPH is an impressive speed for a solo time trialist, on a paved surface, on a time-trial-specific bike. No one can sustain the kind of speed you're claiming off-road on an MTB; keeping up that pace on pavement--for twenty to forty minutes--is almost as unlikely.

As for your questions, it's a little unclear what you're asking for. Do you want advice on a choice of saddle? Search the forums; you'll find that the only consensus view is that there's no shortcut to trial and error; you'll need to try various models out until you find one that's comfy. Do you want advice on a choice of bike? Again, you should search the forums. If nothing else, a look at what others have already said, time and time again, on this eternal topic might help you to make your questions a bit more specific.

I would doubt those speeds also. Anyway, as far as a saddle goes, it is personal preference and we can't help you too much there. However, how comfortable a saddle is, is normally the opposite of the way it looks for a beginner. Be bulky saddles are uncomfortable. As far as pedals, look into some spd clipless or time clipless.
