Cannondale Synapse Carbon vs. Spec Roubaix

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cannondale Synapse Carbon vs. Spec Roubaix

This is my new bike decision after 13 years on a Specialized Epic (Allez on a 1st gen butted carbon frame) - Specialized Roubaix or Cannondale Synapse Carbon. OK OK I know go with the one that fits right and ignore everything else, but here are my issues:
  • Specialized frame "felt" better to me, but the fit was a bit wonky [my knees hit the handlebars when i stood up]. Is that a simple "get a longer stem" or something bigger? Also the component sets suck (I want Ultegra which isn't really offered in Roubaix).
  • Cannondale - i was ready to buy until I rode the Roubaix. Sweet ride, great components (Ultegra w/ Duraace on rear derailleur). I still want this bike but now I wonder if I should try to make the Spec work.

Any insight is welcome.

Thanks

well....i have a c-dale carbon synapse and love it. It's spec'd w/ultegra and ksyrium elite wheels. great ride, very smooth. I didn't try the roubaix, but know several people who like theirs. as far as the fit goes...go back to the shop and have them put you up on a trainer to see about the fit. I also like the look of the all black c-dale carbon syanpse...stealthy.

Uhm yes it is. The Roubaix Elite is available in full Ultegra including the wheels.

OK maybe i'm dense but Specialized's website shows the Roubaix Comp (105) and then the Expert Triple (with Ultegra) and Expert Comp (SRAM). I guess it's just confusing.

I am looking for a compact (34/50) -- and i didn't get a sense that was an easy thing for my LBS to swap out.

Agree on the stealthiness of the Synapse FWIW

You may want to give this one a look as well - Synapse SL with some nice upgrades and a more stimulating and unsteathly paint job: http://www.cannondale.com/bikes/07/c...el-8rcl3d.html

I had these two bikes top of my list and then bought a Look 555. Same ride qulaity, and shares the stealthy looks of the Synapse. Mine's full Ultegra.
