Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Too humid and hot to cycle tonight?

I live in Minneapolis and it's 90 degrees here with the dew point in the 70s. I wondering if maybe I should skip my 20 mile ride tonight for erm... health reasons... thats it. Instead maybe I should just stay at home and have a couple nice cold ones.

Hydrate and get your lazy stalling arse in the saddle you whiner! Think of all the injured riders who wish they could be riding.

It's fair question considering we have little time to acclimate to the weather and the air quality advisory really drives it home. I was out yesterday and it just sucked the life out of me. Today I'm wearing pink panties (metaphorically speaking).

I rode a 2:15 tempo ride earlier and am heading out now for a 1:00 recovery ride. Get going!

I was commuting last summer in 90+ degree weather and 60-70% humidity. The heat radiating off the blacktop at the stoplights was brutal but, other than needing the better part of a bottle of water for a 10 mile ride, I was fine. Now get yer lazy arse off the couch and ride!

Hot humid weather + paper mills = worst ride ever. God those things stink. They should pay way more property taxes than they do.

Yeah, freaking get out and ride. Intervals are great when it's hot because you only have to really suffer for 6 minutes or so... and by comparison, the coasting recoveries will feel so good, you won't even notice the heat.

Get your skinny butt out on your bike and log some miles. Every time I have doubts about whether or not I *should* go on a ride, I fast-forward my thinkining to November/December when I'd do anything to be able to ride in something other than 40-degree weather with sideways rain. With you in Minneapolis, where I hear you have an occasional snow flurry or two during the winter months (read: intense sarcasm) it shouldn't be too much trouble to find a reason to get your miles in now - when you can.

+1

In 5 months he'll be moaning about how he'd rather be riding than ice fishing.

I ride all year long. In any weather (at least to work). Having said that, really pounding it with the air pollution isn't terribly pleasant. So I'll be out there tomorrow when it's supposed to be worse. Go figure. Oddly, the government warns us to not exercise in these conditions but to take action by cycling to work. If you're not confused yet, let me know what you're on.

p*ssy

If 90 and humid was my cutoff, I'm not sure I would've logged 100 miles last summer in VA.....

right.

it's gonna be hot and uncomfortable anyways, might as well pair the weather with the training.

I'm sure you've either gone already or wussed out but this man has a point. Nothing is better than a cold beer after a couple glasses of water/gatorade and a nice cool shower.

It's over 90 degrees most days in TN when we go for our ride. Good thing about bicycling is you can carry as much water as you need for a ride. I would say go for the ride, it will make you stronger.
