Giant makes a wide range of bicycles, from entry level to Tour de France level. Trek and Specialized are two other brands with a wide range of models.

I owned a Giant about 10 years ago and loved it. I sold it for way too little too.

Aaah, you caught me. Yeah, I love Giant bikes. I've never had a problem with them, and it's all I've owned. I've been very happy with overall quality. Good luck.

How much are you willing to spend? What's your definition of high end?

At $2000 Giant, Trek etc are pretty much on a par.

I have a 2006 Giant TCR composite with Ultegra brakes and shifters. This is a great bike. Very fast and very smooth. I paid $1800 at my bike shop.

Giant vs. Trek vs. Specialized, all are good bikes. I think you get slightly more bike with Giant for your money, and you can't go wrong with their higher end bikes.

That being said, I don't own any of them.

Take this with a grain of salt, because I am new to road bikes and just strarted test riding differant brands. I went yesterday to my LBS and rode a Giant Alliance TCR and OCR, did not like them at all, just didn't feel like I had much control. I then went to the other LBS and rode a Treck and a Lemond, I really liked both of them, both were alot more stable feeling to me than the Giant. Just go and ride and see for yourself. I culled the Giant, now I am looking at Trek, and Lemond, but I want to ride a Specialized also before I make my mind up.

I also have a TCR Composite 1 and love it. It is not low end. Full carbon frame/cranks/seatpost/brakes with DA/Ultegra components and Ksyrium Elite wheels. As Nordvang said, light (16.9 lbs.) and fast describes it well.
Because Giant is a large company you tend to get a lot of bike for your money. I paid $2800 for my 2005 model.

I mean if people see a Giant frame are they going to say it is a run of the mill bicycle or are they going to respect it. Is the Cervelo a higher end bicycle.

Who cares? Will it get you a date to the prom? NO. Is it a quality bike for the price? Yes. Decide what is more important.

Both brands have appeared in the Tour de France. Some Giants are cheaper. If you're a strong rider, people will respect you no matter what bike you have.

Their going to say its run of the mill !!!, Cervelo is more bling but only if your getting a R3-SL or a carbon soloist SL.

A "high end" bike will cost you $10k or more. Possibly much more. A select few people can actually use that much bike; namely professional, world class racers.

For the other 99.999% of the world, a $2000 Giant / Trek / Specialized is more bike than we'll ever really need. Don't worry about what people are going to think about the name stenciled on your frame - if you're a good rider, they'll respect you no matter what store you got your bike at.
