Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I was on my way into Central Park today when I see a guy that had just come out of the park all decked out in a full team kit, expensive sunglasses, aero helmet and the rest of the gear. He looked like he was ready to roll. But then I saw that the bike he was on was a Trek 1000. He easily spent more on his clothes than on the bike. I wish I had encountered him in the park so I could dial it up to... oh nevermind.

AND YES I think I saw him in Prospect Park today too (not the guy on the Trek, R600DuraAce!)

Did you apologize before dropping him? (R600DA not Trek guy).

Funny thing is that i did drop him, going up the hill. But I'm not sure it was him, but I think so. I did meet him once, he was even in my house. I bought a pair of wheels from him that I still have but are sitting unused because they are Shimano and I ride Campy now.

Are you jealous of his fashion sense? Why do even care what he was wearing,if he had the same bike as you would he then be allowed to dress like that? Are only big boy racers like you allowed to dress like that? Why is it that when you pass someone who does not know it was a race your the man but if he had of passed you, you where on a recovery ride.

Well it is cheaper to have a top of the line wardrobe than it is to buy a top of the line bike.

Also, I was in that very position myself. I had an entry level full Shimano Sora Scott Speedster S50, yet I would ride my full Assos kit, and Sidi shoes that cost much more than the bike itself. The main reason behind that is the fact that I just started riding at the ripe age of 19 and I intend to be riding 30 years down the road so making as comfortable as possible makes it much more enjoyable and far more bearable.
