Tough Day on the Road
I don't know what happened yesterday, but it was an awful ride. For locals, I did the Butler Training ride, but at about 3:30 in the afternoon. Saturday, I did a really hard 75-mile ride, followed by a 1.5-hour recovery ride on SUnday, then took Monday off, and figured I'd hit it hard again on Tuesday. Well, yesterday, I did hit it pretty hard, but everything just felt wrong. There was a headwind of about 15-20 mph, and it was much hotter than it has been lately. However, my average speed was down about 3mph fromn where it usually is on this ride. I basically crawled the last few miles home. I have no idea. Diet was the same, everything. I don't get it.

15-20 mph headwind + much hotter = slower average speed. No big surprise there - although 3 mph decrease sounds extreme. Some of what you say sounds like the effects of overtraining. Ummm...what about your tire pressures??

I failed to mention that on the way home, I was riding the MUp home, when an older guy passed me, and said, "You spent all that money on a bike to be that slow?" then laughed, and rode away. That hurt, but I had also ridden about 20 miles into the aformentioned headwind by that time.
