Deal or No Deal - Felt F65
2005 Felt F65 "Like New"
They're asking $775 for it. Is this a great deal, a decent deal or not really a deal at all?
If it's not a great deal, what would make it one? $650?
I haven't seen or ridden it yet, just want an opinion before I waste my tiime.
Thanks.

What does "like new" mean? Have you seen this bike?
2005 Felt F65 retailed for $1399 when they were brand new.
If it was truly "like new," meaning not ridden more than 20 miles or so with no damage, then I think $650-$700 might be a decent price.
I've got a 2005 F65, but have changed several things on it, replacing the saddle, crankset (I changed to a compact Gossamer from the 53/39 Gossamer that came stock), and finally got rid of the junky ALX220 wheels that came with the bike.
More than 5,000 on the bike and I'm still happy with it. YMMV.

Like I said, I haven't seen it yet and not knowing what they were going for at the time was just curious as to how good of a deal this may or may not be.
It's also yellow. Not sure what I think about yellow.

The F55, F65, and F75 from those years are the same frame, but with different component specs.
Check with them to see what the drivetrain is. Is it 10-speed Ultegra, or older 9-speed 105? What are the rest of the specs with regard to the crankset, wheelset, etc?

I'm being told that it has all of 35 miles on it and it has an Ultegra rear derailleur, Shimano 105 crankset, front derailleur and brake levers.
Does this tell you whether it is an '04 F65 ot an '05 F70?
Thanks for the responses.

I actually have a 2005 Felt catalog here at my desk.
The 2005 F70 came with Shimano 105 front and rear derailleurs and a FSA Gossamer triple crankset.
A little research finds the 2004 F65 came with Shimano 105 FD and shifters and Ultegra 9-speed rear derailleurs.
From your descriptions, that would probably make it the 2004 F65.
There's nothing wrong with Ultegra 9 speed, but if you want to make a deal you could use 'outdated' (for lack of better term) technology as a bargaining point. Also, if the bike's going on four years old, you've got that to bargain with, too. If there is anyway to ride the bike before you think of buying, that's always a great idea.
Good luck.

You also have to think about how much time you want to spend to find that "screaming great deal" rather than just a normal, fair price. Don't get me wrong, I really like to find steals on used gear, but if it will take you another couple of weeks to MAYBE find a better deal, you might want to just buy the bike and start riding.
If it's truely "like new" you'll probably never regret paying a little premium on the price just to get it on the road.
This is not to say you shouldn't try to talk him down, just keep in mind that truely "like new" gear is worth spending a little extra for if you find it.

I paid $900 or so for a brand new Felt F65 back in August of 2005. It's a decent bike but the wheels are crap and once you upgrade to a decent wheel (that is more stiff) you'll hate the ride that alloy frame gives you. Still, I put about 1200 miles on that bike before I sold it. It's a decent bike but personally, I wouldn't pay more than $700 for it. BTW-My 2005 F65 was blue.
If it's a 2004 with 9spd 105 I'd try to get him down to around $500. There is nothing particularly special about this bike and the stock wheels were absolute crap.

2004 yellow f65 value today?
Any care to give me there opinion on what a 2004 felt f65 is worth paying for today? Looking at buying from my buddy, the bike is in pristine shape. It is yellow with all stock gear. Any feed back is appreciated.
