Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Oversized handlebars??

What is so great about oversized handlebars? Stiffness? Low failure rate? What should I look for in handlebars? Any recommendations with best bang for buck?

Yes OS handlebars are of a thicker diameter at the clamp area. The greater diameter, reduces flexing, and as most bars these days are made of aluminum, it'll extend the amount of time before it reaches the fatique limit. I personally would look for fit first (shape, drop/reach), then the material it's made from.
