Anyone here not White?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm so not cool.
no a spandex head sock is not cool ( it's called a dew rag btw, and it's purpose is to keep the hair compressed flat and in place)

and no sagging your pants down around your ankles is also not cool ( that trend went out of vogue a couple years back)

and so you know not every black man wears a dew rag and saggs there pants...

also Im sure that your still not cool

I try to remain as pale as possible. I also want to avoid developing skin cancer (a woman I know recently had to have a tumor on her forehead removed that she got from unprotected sun exposure). I am actually waiting for the tan of my arms, the result of forgetting sunblock, to go away...

Ethnically, I think census wise I would be "other".

that is true...
I live in a 95% white community, and the suburb boyz in the hood wear dew rags, and sagg their pants... much to the horror of their affluent/well educated parents.
it seems to be a trend among those who like to portray an *urban chic*
sort of like white kids with cornrows.... i love it!

I was just thinking it was too inconvenient to even try, but what do I know—I was a sheltered 12-year-old when I left and only come back once every 4 years.

Thanks for the pics. The ones of the crit were really interesting.

Addendum—nismo, how many races are available in Metro Manila in a season? I'm assuming the summer is the off-season?

Addendum—I know there has been a rise in the Philippine middle-class since I left, hence a change in lifestyle and culture. So I really could be wrong... but I was imagining being the assmunch riding around in a 6k dollar bike through Quiapo. It's just a different culture.

If you need to find out more check out Philippine Cycling Network .. they have a yahoo group where you could find more info. and about 6K bikes if you check some of the pictures they have that kind a bike also - even mt. bikes.

Honestly, I have no idea where you draw the line; skin color or ethnicity.
I'm Portuguese and 50 years ago my grandparents and relatives had to use the "Colored" public showers in the New Bedford public beach.

Aight, thanks.

You may have missed my point—I think it's just wrong to flaunt such an expensive bike in a city that has so much poverty—the likes of which we don't even see here in the states. That's why I think it's a completely different culture.

But I am glad that they do have races there. Sorry if I sounded like an elitist Filipino racer who's bike is too good for EDSA avenue.

Anyway—let's give the OP back his thread. or start a Pinoy racing thread. or both.

Im not sure of what you are saying, do you mean to imply agreement with gadfly that "blacks cant cycle"? or that affluent blacks have no interest in cycling?, or do you think that I have no knowledge of blacks living in the suburbs? or do you just like being sarcastic for no point at all?

Relax, Im just kidding you for you obviously missed the point of my post and that is that blacks can certainly cycle all that wanted if so inclined and had the money and interest to do so,whether from the city or suburbs.. Ciao.

Mom's white.
Dad's black.
I wear sunscreen.
I am darker than my black wife who is actually yellow.
She wears sunblock, but doesn't cycle.
I also own and race a mountain bike, so I'm not a pure roadie.
My mountain bike doesn't wear sunscreen.

I think that covers everything. By the way, my aunt always jokes than I am halfrican.

I know a Chinese man, ex-teammate actually who's doing (racing) real well this year, who just doesn't grow facial hair. He doesn't need to shave at all. Lucky *******.
