Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

WOW!....Glad to hear you're OK! I personally think that everyone should have to pass an IQ test, before being allowed to own a pet! I'm still recovering from a broken collar bone, after T-boning a German Sheppard, and going for a wild ride down an embankment! Nobody in the neighborhood claims ownership of the dog

It may be evident from some of my posts that I can have a little bit of a temper. Needless to say everyone on the manufacturing floor has been asking me how bad "the other guy" looks.

All of the office personell walk into my office and say, "...fell off your bike?"

Oh...and doctor can see me tomorrow at 2.

Good to hear you're okay. On a similar note, I hit a raccoon a few weeks ago, stayed on the bike though and I think the little guy was alright.

Sorry about the face plant. I had a dog run in front of my bike on the road. I stopped in time to avoid a collision and then the dog ran behind me and bit me. Be thankful that the dog did not bite you while you were down.

Let's be thankful that Psimet didn't bite the dog!

Exactly.

Checked out the bike....absolutely nothing wrong. Does not seem to be shifting well so I will really have to get it in the stand and check it out. Wheel is dead-nuts straight.

Shoulder is killing me. If I was more of a cyclist my bone density would have been low enough that I would have broken my collar bone for sure. Muscles are really messed up on it. I can barely lift my arm. Feels like I've been wiring up ceiling lights all day long.

As for the condition of the dog I couldn't tell you for sure. I barely remember what happened.

Been there, done that. Had scars on my chin for over a year.

Glad you were wearing your helmet Psimet - sounds like a bad situation, but it could have been a lot worse. Now heal fast & get back on the bike.

Though about snagging a picture last night, but can't find my camera. I am sure there are some who will be happy about that....

You need two pictures, one while it is still fresh and a bit juicy and the second when is scabbed and crusty.

On the bright side, sick day! A perfect excuse to squirrel away in your shop and build the new wheels. I'd do it quick because when I come over to use your truing stand, it will take me at least 8-10 hours to finish off my wheels. Remember the rear wheel has 40 spokes.

Everything came back to me as the shock of the accident wore off. Now I just hurt. It's been a long time since I've had to sit in the bathroom pouring hydrogen peroxide on road rash. Having road rash on my face is a new one as well.
This is something I've learned from motorcycling. Assume the worst, and prepare for it. :-/ I haven't had the chance to ride a MUP yet, but they just sound plain dangerous to me.

It sounds like you really hit your head. GO SEE A DOCTOR! if you have ANY memory problems after a wreck, or can't concentrate you hit your head hard enough to do real damage. I'll say it again. GO SEE A DOCTOR. It's worth the $75 trip to the emergency room to be sure you don't have bleeding in that skull of yours. Or any other significant damage. Even if you feel OK go see a doctor. There are no nerve endings in your brain, so it is completely incapable of feeling pain. It quite litterally can not know if there's something wrong. (The membrane OVER your brain has pain receptors.. but that's another story entirely)

Okey, on a less serious note. In Jr High I used my face as a brake pad. I think I still have the pair of glasses laying around but I faceplanted after getting stuck between two of my bike riding friends. Facial road rash is.. interesting. And it's why I wear a full face helmet when I'm on my motorsickles.

HOLY CRAP! Glad to hear you seem okay. Tell us what the doc says when you see him. Head trauma is definitely NOT a good thing. I'm not that crazy about doctors either (or HMO's) but hey, as Woody Allen once said "My brain...but that's my second favorite organ". Hope to see you back on the bike soon (if per doctor's permission)

Doc went, "Well....looks like you hit the ground. Keep doing what you're doing with the road rash. Sounds like you had a concussion. Only you can determine if you should ride this weekend. See you later."

- As I figured it was once again a total waste of my time and money.

My shoulder is really torqued up....but I am going to try to ride the Dairyland Dare tomorrow. I am dropping down to the 100K from the 200K route though. The 7,000+ ft of climbing whould be interesting with a bad shoulder. Too bad I don't own a triple....

Wow what is with all the dogs/cyclist collisions? - During club training ride last night some dog strikes again. We even have a closed to traffic/public track for training and some dog wandered in, ran right in front of us going about 40k. 2 riders went down, one walked away with road rash, the other looks most likely like broken collarbone, ambulance had to be called, feel real sorry for him.
