Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

so i took the plunge...

and shaved the legs. hate it. they are cold, clammy, and super uncomfortable with pants on. semi painful, almost pin like sensations. don't think it is worth it, even after a ride last night. really didn't feel much difference. i'm letting them grow back out.

my question is - how long does it take to get past the itchy/uncomfortable period?

ps - this is not ment to be the 1,259,992nd post about "to shave not to shave". if you do or don't, that's fine. just looking for input from people who do and have let them grow out. thanks

well you probably shaved .0256 seconds off your recreational ride. so i'd say it was well worth it.

that 'pain' goes away after the first few times you shave.

Get the Philips Norelco Body Groom, it won't shave them completely but it will trim the hair short enough that makes no difference but with none of the discomfort.

When I first shaved my legs I never felt any itching. I was just freaking glad that the hair/dirt insulation layer was gone from my legs in the 90+ F/high humidity Florida environment. Your mileage may vary.

The last time I shaved my legs it was painful and my skin broke out all over. I think i'm going to go with a norelco body groom this time....

It went away in about a week and a half....but there were still battle wounds a couple weeks later.

I can only speak for myself, but I would say that I have natural Chewbacca boxers.

Yes, it's a little weird feeling and possibly even painful the first time but then you do it again and again and eventually you start getting good at it and it's just amazing and then that's all you want to do.

Oh wait, this thread was about shaving, huh?

it does... it's a wonder i didn't pass out from the pain. i tried it years ago when they first came out and my wife got one. it took about 20 minutes on the front of one of my calves (an area the seemed least sensitive) and took off about half the hair on that portion 'til i gave up.

I'm sure you used shaving cream and a new blade. Give it time. I felt the same way my first time (aww, this is so uplifting). Now, it just feels great (and girls like how it feels, even if you don't).
