Is it bad to wear an event jersey before the event?
So, the century isn't for two days. But I've already picked up my packet, and bought the jersey. The thing is, it looks SWEET, and I want to wear it when I ride today. But that's sort of like buying a concert shirt, before the concert isn't it? What if the bad sucks?
Is it a faux pas to wear this thing today?
Is it bad luck? If I wear the jersey before the event, will I get hit by a car?
What sort of mojo is there surrounding a jersey from the future?
I'm desperate, and am NOT getting on the bike until I have some answers.

Seek immediate psychiatric help... wear the jersey to the doctor's office so they have visuals as well.
I don't think you'll be hit by a bolt of lightning, I say wear it whenever you want to.

Personally, I think it's bad juju. But that's just me.

Screw it. I'm wearing the damn thing, and will update you on my uneventful ride later. I like it. And if I wreck, and have to purify it somehow with chanting, incense, and sea salts, then so be it.

Federal Statutes
1.04.007 subsection 800(b). Events. Attendance. Attire. Bike Jersey. Any bike jersey representative of an event shall be worn during the event and anytime thereafter until the jersey becomes less of a jersey and more of several loosely connected jersey molecules, at which time you cut up the jersey and use it for shop rags.
FYI: Subsection (a) of this code pertains to wearing a rock band's t-shirt to their own concert.

Federal Parliament are in heated debates here in Australia as to whether you can wear a cycling jersey before the event. Many cyclists have been in detention centres here without trial for wearing their jerseys too early.
I hear thats what the war in Iraq was originally about. Saddam Hussein had a box of jerseys that he and his cohorts were planning to wear before having a spin through the desert on their Huffy's. I thing your George W Bush did the right thing, you can't just let that kind of thing happen willy nilly - Early Jerseys and Huffy's, its just not right.

Well,
it depends on the event. For example, lets take two events here in Colorado (a) Elephant Rock and (b) Triple Bypass.
The Elephant Rock is flat for the most part, and overall you should be able to do the century ride no problem. I have not heard of someone having to SAG back to the finish line. But the Triple Bypass often has people who just cannot finish it.
If there is a chance you might not finish the event, do not wear the jersey until the day of the event.

I didn't wear the jersey.
I didn't even look at it. I kept thinking about the Christmas presents I opened last year as they came in the mail. Christmas just wasn't as much fun when the day came around and I had nothing to open.
And I was glad because I bumped into two of the organizers, and I would have felt silly.
Thank you for such well thought advice and such a corny subject.
p.s. I wore the socks though.

So V.T., according to your logic, if I can't finish the event, I shouldn't wear the jersey I paid sixty five bucks for? Maybe I SHOULD mention this to my shrink. That's an expensive shop rag.
It's a flat century around Utah Lake, anyway. If I can't finish it's because I got hit by a truck. And in that case, I'll definitely wear it.
