Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Enough!

This is it. I've been of the bike for 8 weeks now recovering from sugery. I've had enough of sitting around the house, and I'm starting to put some of the 20 pounds I lost back on. I've got a new SMP evolution saddle and several pairs of new bibs mocking me in the closet. I am going for at least a 20 mile ride at a brisk pace tomorrow morning, and I'm posting it here so I won't back out because of a little pain or bleeding. Will post pics, so there's no backing out now, or I'll feel like a complete puss.

haha Well be careful. I know how much it sucks to be off for so long. Several years ago when I was still racing motocross, in one weekend, I broke my left foot in two places, and my right wrist in once place. I was down for about 6 weeks. We sent my engine and suspension out to Pro Circuit where they did everything to it we could afford and when I got it back it was 7 weeks after the injury and I could ride again. On a practice track, I was ripping way faster than ever. Then at a race the following weekend, I endo (flip forward, over the front wheel midair) over a step-up jump and have to bail off the bike. Ended up fracturing my pelvis. So I had a two week period of being healed before I was down again for another 6 weeks. That is the worst feeling ever.

Moral of Story: Take it easy at first just so you don't reinjure anything. I know it feels great to rip but you can end up hurting yourself again.

i'd rather feel like a complete puss now, rather than feel like a complete puss for a MUCH longer period time later on, all because i wanted to feel like a man and push too hard too soon...

A good buddy had similar surgeries earlier this year. He road with us on the Seattle to Portland ride last month. It was inspiring to see how we was so determined to heal and get out there again.
